KHAILO

Flandri looked lovingly at Jaki with vivid purple eyes. I knew that color as want. I felt my own eyes heat up as they turned bright red with anger. Jaki turned her beautiful black eyes upon us. They betrayed nothing and I wished desperately that she was looking at me, but one can only guess where Jaki is looking. I swiveled my pupils to face Flandri and watched as he lowered his now pink embarrassed eyes. I grinned. I made a small wave that meant “go to lead” and watched as Jaki shrugged her hand away from Viylu. Her black, boyish hair swishes evilly as I know she’s guessed my plan. She’s just smart that way.

I walk purposefully to take the lead beside Jaki. I give her a look. She understands and I can’t help, but watch as one eyebrow rise as she nods; her beautiful face is happy. I turn and wave for the others to follow and Viylu groans, but complies. I turn back to Jaki, but she’s already run off. I let a momentary look of surprise reach my face as I start to grin evilly. She’s always a cheater.

I race ahead to try to catch up to her, but she’s really fast today and I fail. When Flandri cuts in front of me, surprise and anger spread into my eyes. I see Jaki rush behind a blue bucket and I become determined to get there first. I run as fast as I can and beat Flandri there, but I can see I’m already too late. What took Jaki to cross in a minute, we crossed in three. Man, we are slow!

When I turn behind the bucket an air messaged awaits and it is already starting to fade. Some of the words have already disappeared. It says:

Feiry in black…….here.

I………..following him.

Follow…..silver strands….me.

I am trying to decipher it when Flandri swings around the corner. He is smiling, but when he sees the message he retreats back to his sullen personality. Viylu follows thirty seconds later and she frowns. She studies the message.

“There is a Feiry here and we know that isn’t good,” Viylu mumbles to herself, “Silver strands……Silver strands……Silver strands!” she exclaims. We, Flandri and I, look at her quizzically.

“Silver strands! You know, that spell we recently learned,” she starts to explain, but my raised eyebrow stops her, “You do know what I’m talking about, right?”

“I haven’t the faintest idea.” I say sarcastically. Flandri caught my eye and mouthed “one…two…three”.

“Well,” Viylu says on three. Man, Flandri’s good. Viylu continues even though she sees my yellow laughing eyes, “The spell we learned taught us how to leave a trail for your friends to follow, remember? Jaki has obviously left us a trail to follow.”

I smile as I remember that day. Jaki made the trail spin around wildly and that made the people following it to look like ballerinas, albeit bad ones. Because of her muteness she seemed to acquire really cool abilities. She can do spells that are really powerful. I frown now, however. Jaki usually waits for us. She must have thought it was important.

“There!” Viylu exclaimed again. I whirled around. She was pointing at a transparent glittering thread. “It’s getting weaker.” Viylu says and follows the darn thing. Flandri and I follow her feeling like this is some sort of trap.
