He knelt down on one knee, smiling up at me with shining eyes. My eyes instantly filled with tears. Was this really happening? Was the man I've loved for so long actually about to propose? He pulled out a small velvet box and opened it, revealing a beautiful, yet simple, diamond ring. He opened his mouth to speak, the question flowing out beautifully, as if he were singing.
*10 years before*
It was a normal day in spring. I didn't really enjoy the slight humidity from the rain, but the air was crisp and clear and the sun was shining just enough to be comfortable but not so much that it was uncomfortably bright. I was walking through the park, enjoying the day off I had after months of working. Theere was a warm breeze that blew through my thin t-shirt, and through the small rips in my shorts.
There were some kids playing in the playground, as their parents sat on the benches and chattered away to each other. It was peaceful. At least, it would have been. Suddenly there was loud laughter as two men ran towards me. They crashed into me, and all three of us fell back. Slowly, I got up and brushed myself off. I looked at the two guys slowly getting up. One was a couple inches taller than me, with brown hair, and a smile on his face. The other had blonde and blue hair and was laughing as he stood up again. When I got a good look at their faces, I realized it was Matt Webb and Josh Ramsay of Marianas Trench. Holding in a scream, I said as calmly as possible, "You should watch where you're running next time." and chuckled.
Matt laughed and said, "Yeah, we're sorry about that. Must have been distracted." And Josh nodded, looking at me.
"It's alright. I'm Anja." I held out my hand and Josh immediately grabbed it and shook it.
"Anja...thats a pretty name. Very unique." He said, smiling. "Probably just like you."
I smiled back and said, "Th-thanks.."
Then Matt said, "Oh, I'm sorry. I'm Matt and this is Josh."
I nodded, and laughed a little bit. "I know," I said. "I'm a huge fan of your music."
"Oh, pretty AND good music taste? I like this girl." Josh said, a little flirtatiously. Matt just rolled his eyes.
I blushed a deep red and looked down at my feet, tucking some hair behind my ear. My hair was long and blonde, sometimes the length was so unmanageable and there were many a time at work that I've lazily pulled it into a ponytail because it got in the way, but in this case it was useful because I could hide my bright red face.
When my face was no longer red, I looked up again just to find Josh staring at me. He looked away when he realized I'd caught him staring. "So...uh Anja...what do you do?" he asked.
"I work at a bank.' I said. "Its boring as fuck, but it helps pay the rent." I laughed.
Matt laughed too. "What bank?" he asked.
"Scotia." I answered.
Matt frowned. "Damn...there go our plans of robbing that place tonight." He winked and laughed. I laughed with him as Josh looked at him and said, "Wait..what? We're gonna rob a bank?"
Matt shook his head. "No Josh. We're not robbing a bank."
I checked the time on my phone and said, "Well I have to go and clean my apartment before my roommate gets back. It was amazing meeting you guys."
Matt smiled and Josh said, "It was amazing to meet you too. Could we see each other again?"
I smiled widely. "Sure," I said, "Here's my number." I took out a pen and a piece of paper and wrote down my phone number, then handed it to him before walking away. Quickly, I glanced over my shoulder and saw Matt laughing while Josh danced around a bit.
