Hannah Reynolds and Jeremiah Fisher had been best friends since the day they met when they were ten. Hannah's family had just moved to Cousins Beach, and Jeremiah's family was visiting for the summer. Hannah was sitting on the beach by herself, a book in hand, and Jeremiah had just been kicked off his friend Belly's volleyball team. Jeremiah was left with nothing to do but walk around the beach. When Hannah saw him walking by himself, she ignored him. Jeremiah did quite the opposite.
"Pride and Prejudice? Aren't you like seven?" Jeremiah questioned, immediately going to sit down next to the stranger.
"Ten, actually. And yeah, my moms are making me read it so I can be part of their book club this month" The raven haired girl replied to the brunette.
"Oh, sorry, that sucks. I'm ten too actually. My name's Jeremiah" He holds his hand out to shake at the end of his introduction.
"I'm Hannah"
The two ran into eachother the next day at the beach where Jeremiah introduced Hannah to his best friends Belly and Steven as well as his brother Conrad.
Hannah immediately became friends with everyone in the group, each friendship having a slightly different dynamic.
Belly, was like a sister to Hannah. They were the same age and got along shockingly well considering how different their personalities were. They shared everything, even a spotify account.
Hannah's dynamic with Steven had changed over the years. At first it was a childhood crush. Everyone talked about how when they got older they would make the perfect couple. They argued like an old married couple. Turns out everyone had been wrong, and arguing like an old married couple was not a good thing. It was terrible when they were thirteen and tried to date. It made both of their summers miserable, and the two agreed they'd be better off as friends.
There was Conrad. For three years, he hated Hannah, but apparently after a two day argument where Jeremiah and Belly refused to talk to him unless he talked to her, he'd learnt to deal with having Hannah around. Sometimes he even enjoyed her presence.
Then there was Jeremiah. Dispite only being able to see him a few months out of the year, he was her best friend.
Even when Hannah had almost crashed Jeremiah's car multiple times while learning how to drive. Or tried (and failed) multiple times to set him up on dates. Jeremiah could never be mad at her.
It was the same for Hannah, she could never be mad at Jeremiah for anything. Not even when he dragged her to parties, or threw her in the pool during the annual belly flops that had been a tradition long before the duo had met.
Both of them would do anything for the other, including hididng their feelings for years because the latter could never like them back. It wasn't worth ruining their friendship.
At first both Hannah and Jeremiah ignored their feelings, assuming it was nothing. Every summer, the lie only became bigger. The two had been secretly in love with eachother since they were ten, and there was no sign of those feelings going away.
But everything was changing this summer, and maybe hidden feelings coming to light wasn't such a bad thing.
