Chapter Twenty-two: Junkyard Showdown

"Steve!" Jessica cries as Dustin runs over to the doors of the bus and yanks them open. "Steve! Abort! Abort!" Dart opens his face up, letting out a horrifying screech before leaping at Steve who jumps to the left, rolling over the hood of a car. Steve jumps down and turns to the right swinging his bat as another Demogorgon jumps at it. The bat hits its side, sending it flying into the darkness. 

Jessica rushes over to the doors and stands by Dustin. "Steve, run!" while Dustin shouts "Steve, hurry!" Steve runs straight at the bus, Demogorgons hot on his heels. Jessica holds her hands out. Steve grabs it, allowing Jessica to pull him onto the bus, the two falling onto the floor. Dustin and Lucas slam the door shut, preventing the Demogorgons from coming in.

Both Jessica and Steve sit up just as the Demogorgons managed to get the door open a bit. "Get behind us!" Jessica orders as Max, Lucas and Dustin hide behind Steve and Jessica. The Demogorgons snap their mouths open at the teens, desperate to sink their teeth into them. "Shit!" Dustin curses.

"Are they rabid or something?" Max asks them as Steve grabs a sheet of metal and leaps toward the door, pressing it up against the small opening. "They can't get in! They can't!" Lucas screams. Both Jessica and Steve places their feet onto the sheet of metal, putting all their weight onto it. The monsters growl and next thing the teenagers knew, the bus was rocking.

Suddenly, the sheet of metal flew out from under Jessica and Steve's feet as a Demogorgon manages to climb onto the bus. Screaming, Jessica shoves the kids to the other side of the bus. "Go, go, go, go!" Steve then scrambles for his bat. Once the bat was in his hands, he swings it, making the monster fly out of the bus. 

Reaching the back of the bus, Dustin grabs his comm, turning it on. "Is anyone there? Mike? Will? God! Anyone!" A loud thump was heard above as the kids and Jessica fall back from freight. "Shit!" Dustin screams. Jessica pushes herself up and stands by the ladder, pushing Max and Lucas behind her. "We're at the old junkyard, and we are going to die!"

"No one is going to die!" Jessica screams at him. "Not on my watch!" 

While Steve was fighting another Demogorgon up front, one was onto of the roof, sneakily making its way towards Jessica and the kids. But Jessica had managed to hear its footsteps as it echoed as it slowly approached the opening on top.

Max looks up in time to see the Demogorgon peer down the opening. It opens its face, screeching at them. Max screams. Jessica leans forward, her hands fisting the material of Dustin's jacket and yanks him to his feet. She pushes him behind her, yielding her bat up high. Hearing the screams from the front of the bus, Steve races over and stands by Jessica.

"Out of the way! Out of the way!" He orders the kids. He looks up at the Demogorgon. "You want some? Come get this!" Jessica holds her bat up high. "Come here, you son of a bitch!" The monster screeches back, its face opening wide. However, its face soon closed and looks out toward the junkyard. It soon then fled the top of the bus.

Steve crept toward the front of the bus. He slides the doors opening, jumping a bit when it bangs against the bus. "Jeez," he mutters. He steps out, his bat wielded up high to fight off the monsters. But there were none in sight. 

Jessica motions the kids to follow her to the front of the bus. Jessica steps off, the kids standing on the step as they wait for the 'all clear'. "What happened?" Lucas asks. "I don't know." Max says. "Steve scared 'em off?" Dustin asks.  

Jessica shakes her head. "No. No way." Steve turns and face the kids. "They're going somewhere." Jessica looks over at the kids. "It's okay. You can step off the bus." One by one, Lucas, Max and Dustin step off and stands by Jessica and Steve.

"Well, now what?" Lucas asks them. 

"I say we still go find Dart." Steve tells them, placing the bat onto his shoulder. "I'm in," Jessica tells him before looking over at Max. "Listen, if this is all too much for you, you can back down. We won't get mad at you if you do." Max looks over at everybody's faces. She couldn't believe that Lucas had been telling the truth the entire time.
