16: Pretty good for a dead bitch

Alex rolls her eyes and looks at the boy, "You look great Dustin," she said, overly sarcastic and with a fake smile. Steve grins at her, completely missing the sarcasm, this makes Alex smile genuinely, Which seems to boot Dustin's confidence.

"Now. You're gonna go in there..,"

"yeah."

"and look like a million bucks."

"Yeah!"

"and you're gonna slay 'em dead."

"Like a lion," Dustin says, followed up by a purr which makes Alex cringe.

She turns to him and shakes her head, "Yeah, trust me on this, no-one is gonna fall for you if you do that, okay?"

"Okay."

Alex makes a move to get out of the car, wanting to get away from the testosterone inflated boys.

"Wait, Alex!" Steve calls just as she was about to shut the door.

"Yeah?" she asked, hoping he wasn't gonna offer her dating advice as well.

"No boys!"

Alex shook her head and mumbled "that won't be a problem," but Steve didn't hear it, rolling up the window and blasting his music.

Alex walks into the gym ahead of Dustin, looking at it in surprise. Balloons and streamers decorate every wall, a wall of streamers where a few friend groups were sitting. Everyone else was on the 'dance floor' where the DJ was, along with Nancy who was at the side doing drinks and Johnathan on the opposite side doing pictures. The people not dancing were at a table, the party included, Dustin was walking over to them already. Alex was planning to but then she noticed her friend group and ran over to sit with them on the bleachers instead, Isaac already having a drink in hand for her.

"What'd you do to it?" she asks, smelling the cup and questioning the boy's kindness. He mocked offense and raised a hand to his heart,

"Me? I would never, just showing off my kindness," He said, pulling the girl to sit down in between himself and Luke. The other girls in their friend group in the row in front, all turned to face away from the three.

"So, have you figured out a way to ask out your lady?" Luke asked, knocking his shoulder against her elbow. Alex almost snorted at the idea of Max being referred to as 'her lady'

"Nope, I was just gonna go with it in the moment i guess?" Alex responded, seeming she was psyching herself up more than answering the boy.

Across the hall, the party had just finished making fun of Dustin's hair and were all sitting around.

"I can't believe it!" Mike exclaimed, not being able to keep it in anymore. The group turned to look at him confused.

"What?" Will asked, not following him at all.

"Alex!" he said, clearly annoyed, "We spend almost everyday with her in the hospital and yet she's still hanging around with those assholes," he said, pointing to the girl sat between two boys.

Max sighed as she looked over, she was building herself up to ask her to dance or something. But she had to agree with Mike for once, it was annoying how she barely talks to them at school, sure she doesn't actively avoid confrontation but she rarely seeks it out either.

The song switched to a slow one and the group were slowly being picked off, a girl came over and asked Will first, with a push from mike he accepted. Eleven walked in for Mike, the boy all but running to meet her. Lucas seemed like he was building himself up to ask Max but Alex beat him too it.

"Max, hey, uh.. i need your help? In the bathroom? yeah the bathroom," She said quickly, coming up with a quick excuse to take Max out of the hall.

Lucas frowned at the blonde girl, he was about to ask Max to dance. "Can't this wait?" he asked irritated.

Alex shook her head, "Nope, its and emergency." she said.

Max laughed and followed the girl out, "There isn't an emergency is there?" she asked, thinking she understood Alex's thoughts.

The blonde girl shook her head, dragging her into one of the toilet stalls. "Nope, i just wanted to do this." She said, putting her arm on the ginger girls neck and pulling her closer, into a kiss. The ginger girl reacted quickly, kissing back just as deeply.

Alex doesn't think she has ever been so happy.
