I drove to the interview with Hollywire. Yeah, I have had three interviews with them. But it was cool because I'm friends with Chelsea.
"Hey what's up guys? Chelsea Briggs coming from Vancouver, hanging out with Lights, how are you?" she asked once the interview had started.
"Good, a little under the weather but still good." I said.
"I saw that on your twitter." she said. I smiled.
"So what do you do if you are down and out, you can't really take off a show." she asked.
"No, I mean you can't, unless you literally can't sing then it's like well I have no choice, but it's kinda like, if your about to die kinda scenario. Like, a few weeks ago I had a concert the day after Valentine's Day, but I was in a car accident and was in a coma for a while so it's not like I could have a concert then." I said.
"Oh yeah, so what happened then?" she asked.
"Um, Josh and I were both at the studio, and we got a cab home, but it was really rainy and the cab driver skidded into a lamp post. But we all lived!" I said. She smiled.
"It's a good thing you did, too. Okay, so this is a fan question. Since you and Josh are dating, and you were in four of his videos, has Josh been in any of your videos?" she asked.
I bit my lip. "Um... he has. I'm trying to remember the videos....." I said, looking at her.
She laughed. "Oh right! He was the first guy pulled off the truck in Banner, and the astronaut in Drive My Soul and February Air." I said.
"You've accomplished so much at such a young age, what do you think you're biggest accomplishment was?" she asked.
"Well it's hard to say... My career has been like a succession of small triumphs, and that's the way it was appropriately built, like I wouldn't have - I wouldn't be where I am today if it was like, a quick rise and then a flop. It's been a slow gradual, comfortable pace bringing me to where I am now. Everything from setting up my Myspace page in 2006 and -" I said, stopping because I was losing my train of thought.
"2006! So long ago...." she said. I laughed.
"I know right?" I laughed.
"You're such a down to earth girl -" she started.
"Thank you, you too." I said. She smiled.
"Thank you! How do you keep so grounded in this industry and um, like, what's your secret?" she asked.
"Um... Well my siblings is one of them, there's some tension between me and my parents but Matt and Shai are a big help. I know probably a lot of people say that, but it's nice to come home and still be somebodies little girl, like, I'm the youngest in my family, so I love having Matt and Shai just - there for me." I said.
"Well you have so many tattoos, I love it, such beautiful art, I wanna know like, your first tattoo, and the story behind it." she said.
I bit my lip. "Well, I was bullied a lot when I was a kid, and an event from that caused me to get a tattoo on my back, but I've had that removed. My 'first' tattoo, I guess, would be.. So in 2012 I had just moved away from home to live with my brother, and it was kinda like I was facing the world on my own for the first time, and my parents would have never let me get a tattoo, that's part of the argument we had, and I moved out and I was like 'I'm a free bird!' so I got like," I said, using my hands to motion just under my stomach.
"Right here, and this is super cliche, but I got two sparrows. 'Cuz the sparrows are kinda like, they travel the world - I had gone on tour with Hedley, then I went on my first tour - and they always know how to get home so - yeah." I said.
