You had just crossed the street to reach the first part of campus."Wait," Jaemin lightly grabbed your arm, stopping you in the middle of the sidewalk.
"Huh?" you were confused, raising your hand up to look at him and block out the setting sun that was making everything around you orange.
"Give me your phone," he held his hand out. You were confused, but also a little intrigued as you fished your phone out from your back pocket and passed it to him. "Keep your hand there and just keep staring at me in disdain," he was adjusting the phone in his hand, glancing between you and the screen.
"I do not stare at you in disdain," you scoffed, rolling your eyes.
"Perfect. Look at how cool this shot came out," he smiled, showing you your phone proudly.
"Oh wow," you were pleasantly surprised- it was a pretty interesting photo. The hand up blocking the sun from your eyes added a great contrast to the bright orange that was illuminating everything around you, and the look in your eyes as they were mid roll looked really cool. "This is awesome," you smiled.
"I'm glad you liked it, I just thought it was too good of a shot to miss," he was trying to be humble, but the bright grin he had on showed that he knew he was good at what he did. It was weird to him, how you didn't notice how beautiful you looked. It was the main reason he knew he wanted to capture it somehow- to him, in that moment, you looked ethereal.
"Why didn't you just get a Master's in photography?" you shoved your phone back into your pocket, walking alongside Jaemin again as you entered campus. Jaemin pressed his lips into a thin line and sighed.
"Well, I already got my bachelor's in photography, and my parents were very adamant that I get a Master's in a field that has a bit more 'job prospects'," he was picking at the strap of his backpack, displeased with this.
You shrugged. "For what it's worth- I think you're great with a camera. Any company would be lucky to have you on staff."
For the next few weeks there became a pattern. You and Jaemin would work during the day, the entire time the other person taking over the back of each others mind, and shortly after Jaemin would arrive at your place to work on the project where shortly afterwards you would go to class together. At first, you found it annoying to constantly have to bring your storyboards down. However, you got them submitted to Kun after the first week, easing any annoyance you felt by Jaemin's presence to a point that you nearly forgot about the article he wrote.
Well, nearly. The angered messages and comments on your Patches accounts subsided as the weeks progressed, but those camping on the account would still state some pretty choice words for you- making sure to cite Jaemin's article as the reason for their hatred.
"What do you do for work?" Jaemin had asked one day when you were headed towards your classes for the night.
"Oh, I'm an assistant editor at WizMedia," it was a lie you were used to saying- after all, no one else truly knew your position. "I applied two years back and it's been great."
"So both you and your cousin work there?" Jaemin wasn't mining for information necessarily, he was genuinely curious about what you did in the time that he couldn't be around you.
"Yeah, how did you know Hendery's second job is there?" you were weary of this, but sure that this likely came up at some point. You two had spoken so much about random topics, you wouldn't be too surprised you had somehow mentioned that this was Hendery's cover too.
"He mentioned it at the family dinner," Jaemin scrunched his nose as he spoke, but you didn't want to press further into his noticeable lie.
Over evenings of working, you learned a few more things about Jaemin- he really hated his job, but more than that, his dream was to be an athletics photographer. One night, he spoke endlessly about the difficulty that capturing a good sports shot could be considering the awkward lighting in stadiums and that the subjects were almost always in motion.
