And after another hour, the now smaller crew was ten minutes away from the location. Ella had been listening to their music on the way there, finding out that they had three records out and that she had been underestimating how good they actually were. She was sure she would have to wait weeks until her brain played another song on loop other than 'Teddy Picker'.
Don't be surprised when you get bent over
They told you, but you were gagging for it
With the end of that line, the van stopped right in front of Sunset Sound Recorders, the iconic recording studio. Ella had to leave the fangirling very deep inside her, but who wouldn't freak out? After all, not only were Disney movies and other legendary classics recorded there but artists like Prince, The Doors, The Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin had recorded here as well.
She bent forward to grab her blue clipboard, in which she had yet another list and a bunch of little post-its full with little notes on what she should double or triple check to make sure this music video ended up being just like the artists wanted it to be, and then paused her music, put her earbuds away and her phone in the back pocket of her jeans.
Aaron gave them all a little encouraging speech, like every time before a shoot. She appreciated this aspect of her work: everyone looking out for everyone, making sure they all enjoyed their jobs and giving their all for the best results.
Right behind the two directors, Ella made her way through the hallways, looking around marveled by the amount of tour posters and framed vinyl. She wanted so badly to detour and make her way through the studio on her own just to appreciate the history of the place, but she would leave that for another day.
Ben made another left and they went through a door right into a big recording studio, a console with far too many buttons and a glass window separating the crew from the room the whole band was in.
"Good morning, I'm Ben Chappell, this is Aaron Brown." Her bosses shook hands with the person sitting in front of the console, who she would only think was a producer, "We're here to film the music video."
"Oh yes. Hello, James Ford." The man introduced himself as he got up from his seat. The producer then turned around, pressed a button and leaned into the mic in the middle to say, "Lads, they're here for the music video."
With that the musicians turned around and walked from the far corner of the room they had been in, and the closer they got the more intimidated Ella was. With musicians it was always known to go two ways: they either are lovely to work with or they are so full of themselves that they act like complete assholes.
For the sake of the crew and her own, she wanted them to be the first option. She had loved their music, so it would be a pity having to know the people who made such good records were jerks.
They came through the side door, "Nice to meet you, I'm Alex. Alex Turner." The one with the leather jacket and the grown out shaggy hair said. He exuded rockstar energy and one could see it from miles away. After shaking hands he pointed to his bandmates and gave out each of their names "this is Jamie Cook, Matt Helders and Nick O'Malley".
As the formalities were done, she was standing at the door with the rest of the crew. After a year being in this job, she knew it was better for a PA to make herself useful and productive than to try and interact with the talent. The only times she'd ever really interact with them was to ask if they needed something else or if they wanted things done in another way. This time it would be no different.
So as the crew went into the room where the band had been and set up for the shoot, Ella went to her bosses to go over their bullet points on the video. The guys had asked to just be filmed playing the song and maybe film around the studio they were in.
