chapter one

"does a seven count?" will asked, holding up the die.

"did mike see it?" lucas asked, and will shook his head. "then it doesn't count!"

dustin picked up a pizza box. "does anyone want this?" everyone shook their heads.

everyone grabbed their bags and headed out the door.

dustin walked out the door and turned to mike."something's wrong with your sister."

"what are you talking about?"

"she's got a stick up her butt."

"yeah." lucas added. "it's because she's been dating that douchebag, steve harrington."

"yeah, she's turning into a real jerk."

"she's always been a real jerk!" mike exclaimed.

"i think nancy's cool!" maeve said, hopping onto her bike.

"she hasn't been cool since she dressed up as an elf for our elder tree campaign." dustin sighed, biking away.

"that was four years ago!" mike yelled after him.

"just saying!"

"later!" lucas said.

"bye, micheal!" maeve followed after lucas.

"it was a seven." will admitted, and mike looked confused. "the roll, it was a seven. the demogorgon. it got me."

"see you tomorrow!"

"will, come on!" maeve yelled after her best friend.

they started biking down the street when they got to lucas's house. "good night, ladies."

"kiss your mom 'night for me!" dustin yelled, and maeve and will snickered.

dustin turned to his two remaining friends. "race you back to my place? winner gets a comic."

"any comic?"

will and maeve started biking as fast as they could.

"i didn't say go!"

"i'll take your x-men 134!" will yelled.

"i want 101!" maeve exclaimed.

the pair eventually got really far -- by mirkwood.

"will i'm not going that far, i'll see you tomorrow!" maeve yelled.

"okay, see you tomorrow!"

maeve quickly got up and ready for school, rode her bike, and walked over to the party — well there was actually one missing.

"where's will?" maeve asked, putting her bike into the rack.

"we didn't see him." mike said. "we thought you would know."

"maybe he's just sick." dustin said and they headed to class.

maeve would be lying if she said she didn't get a bad feeling looking over at wills empty desk. she would just go over to his house after school and ask where he is. the girl was interrupted from her thoughts when the chief walked into the classroom.

"can i have mike, lucas, dustin, and maeve please?"

the kids and chief walked into the main office to talk.

the chief sat up. "your friend, will. have you seen him?"
