Chapter 7: Harmony Hut

Start from the beginning

"Oh, they're just shy." Becky reasoned.

"We're not shy." Pugsley argued.

"We're contagious." Wednesday corrected her.

Becky and Gary stood their in awkward silence before Gary spoke. "I'm sensing some friction here. Something not quite Chippewa."

The rest of the campers nodded in agreement.

"But it ain't no problemo. All they need are good friends, good fun, and...a little time in the Harmony Hut!" Gary announced.

'I only need (Y/n).' Wednesday thought to himself..

...

Wednesday, Pugsley, and (Y/n) were sitting on the couch in the Harmony Hut, (Y/n) sitting on Wednesday's lap once again. The Harmony Hut turned out to be a small shack that had positive posters all over the wall, stuffed animals everywhere, and bright, floral furniture.

"How long do we have to stay in here?" Pugsley whined.

"Until we crack." Wednesday answered, resting his head on (Y/n)'s shoulder while she ran her fingers through his hair.

Pugsley lowered his head in defeat, as the door opened and Gary shoved Joel into the room. Wednesday automatically tightened his hold on (Y/n).

"Have fun." Gary said, closing the door.

"What are you in for?" Wednesday asked a bit harshly.

"I wouldn't go horseback riding." He answered sheepishly.

"That's all?"

"And I wouldn't make a birdhouse."

"Why not?" (Y/n) asked.

"I just wanted to read." He mumbled, gesturing to his book.

Gary opened the door again and snatched the book out of his hands. "Not on my time four-eyes!" Gary laughed as he closed the door again.

Joel sighed and looked up before letting out a horrified scream, at the sight of a Micheal Jackson poster that was on the wall.

...

It was night time now, and Wednesday, Pugsley and (Y/n) were trying to escape. They wore all black clothes and black masks over their faces that made them look a lot like ninjas.

"Hurry up!" Wednesday whispered harshly at Pugsley while pulling (Y/n) along by her hand.

"I'm coming!" Pugsley whispered back

The three of them made their way to a tall fence that had barbed wire along the top of it. They were going to try and climb over it to escape.

Pugsley put his hands together and Wednesday urged (Y/n) to go first. Just as she was about to place her foot in Pugsley's cupped hands, a voice called out through the darkness.

"Wait!"

Wednesday turned around, and pushed (Y/n) behind him protectively. "Who's there?" He demanded.

"Be careful! Tetanus!" Joel appeared before them holding a pair of bolt cutters.

Wednesday was a bit surprised that he was helping them. Maybe he judged him a little too harshly. He seemed like a decent guy. Besides, there's no way (Y/n) would ever leave him for someone like Joel.

(No offense to all you Joel fans out there. I think he's cool too. These are Wednesday's thoughts, not mine.)

Just as Joel was about to start cutting through the fence, sirens sounded in the distance along with barking dogs. A light flashed onto the four of them, and they all pressed themselves against the fence. Wednesday instinctively grabbed (Y/n)'s hand and squeezed it.

"There they are! I saw them sneak out!" Amanda snitched.

A bunch of the campers approached them with Amanda in front, Becky and Gary not far behind. One of the counselors was holding a dog on a leash.

Three boys approached, Wednesday, Pugsley and (Y/n) and pulled their masks off. Wednesday glared daggers at the boy who took off (Y/n)'s mask. He didn't like other people being so close to her. The boy noticed his stare and nervously gulped before rushing back to the group.

"Children, what do you think you're doing?" Gary demanded.

"We have to see our family. It's very important." Wednesday told them.

"More important than a summer of fun? More important then making new friends? More important than sharing?" Becky asked in shock.

"And Joel Glicker, I'm surprised at you." Gary scolded the boy.

"I-I have to get out of here. I have allergies." Joel stuttered.

Some of the kids laughed at that.

"Oh, you're allergic? To sunshine? And archery? And crafts?" Becky asked sarcastically.

"Yes."

"I think they should be punished." Amanda chimed in.

"Punished! Punished!" Amanda chanted, and soon the rest of the campers joined in.

"Punished!"

"Punished!"

"Punished!"

"Punished!"

"Punished!"

"No! No!" Becky shouted, and they all quieted down. "We are not here to punish. We are here to inspire." She wrapped an arm around Amanda.

Amanda sent a smug look towards Wednesday who narrowed his eyes at her.

"Campers, you know what I think our little ninja friends need? You know what just might turn their sad and potentially wasted little lives right on around?" Gary asked.

"What?" Joel asked, slightly scared.

Gary picked up a guitar and started playing, while everyone else started singing.

"Kumbaya, my Lord, Kumbaya! Kumbaya my Lord, Kumbaya!"

Wednesday and Pugsley glanced at each other while Joel pressed himself further into the fence.

"Kumbaya my lord, Kumbaya. Oh, Lord, Kumbaya."

Wednesdays eyes widened in fear and he pulled (Y/n) to his chest and stroked her hair for comfort.
