Not an Egotist

Y/n rested on the elevated surface at the entrance of his house and slipped out of his sandals. The house was desolate and empty, and he could only hear the light breeze from outside.

When did he start feeling so lonely? Was it when Izumi and Shikimori got into a relationship? Did Shikimori only like Izumi because he was cute? What kind of standard was that, Y/n thought to himself.

He stole an outrageously huge chunk of sugary cheesecake from the fridge and traveled upstairs to his room. There, he spent the rest of the evening scrolling through the internet on his laptop. This was Y/n's usual schedule. Procrastinate and then stay up till 12 to do homework.

By about 6, Y/n started drawing to relax, by doing a few rough pencil drafts in his sketchbook. That was until his phone started to buzz like a bee with a microphone.

Y/n ignored it and kept scribbling, but it started to vibrate even more. In annoyance, he picked it up and found that Shikimori was texting him.

She sent a lot of messages telling him to respond, but the main message read: Can u walk Izumi to school tomorrow? I have an appointment in the morning.

He groaned awfully loud after reading it. "Why do have to be so protective of him?" Y/n muttered at the screen. "He can walk himself to school."

He took a big bite of the cheesecake by his side, and thought to himself, Whatever I'll say yes.

He typed in "sure", but the next day he did not show up to walk Izumi to school.

Izumi eventually showed up at school but he didn't talk at all about Y/n not showing up. Y/n let this incident pass his mind and stared outside during math class. Why do girls like cute, and shy boys, Y/n thought a bit foolishly. They need a guy who can stand up for himself.

"Y/n!" Shikimori snapped the boy out of his thoughts.

"What?" Y/n looked at her with a sort of stupid gaze at her hair.

"First off stop staring at my hair," she said.

"Okay," he said, nonchalantly.

"I wanted to thank you for walking Izumi to school," she said. "He's... I just want him to be safe."

"No problem," Y/n replied, with a guilty conscience for lying.

"Anyways... me and everyone are going to play volleyball! Wanna join in?"

"Eh..." he looked back outside.

"C'mon! You always stay behind in everything. Plus... not to be cocky or anything but, I don't think the other guys have much of a chance against me."

"You are such an egotist!" Y/n smirked

"Am not! I think of others before myself!" she said flustered.

"Sureeee..."

"Forget it!"

"Alright!" Y/n held his hands up. "Fine, I'll join in."

"You better, because I'm gonna prove whose the best!"
