It was a frigid cold night and the window was left open. Not the type of thing you would expect to be woken up by in my world. What is my world you are probably asking. Well, my world is a disgusting trash, full of ungratefull, careless people that have forgotten the very reason why we are alive. They slaughter anything that moves, without thought. I'm often woken up to the sounds of screams, not some stupid cold weather.
My mom was taken away from me at a young age, and I was left to fend for my own because my dad always came home drunk. Sometimes I feel like he forgets. I feel like he forgets the very reason why we are alive, just another careless person. It's not easy, looking out for an older sister who thinks she's amazing. If it wasn't for me, it's possible she could have been taken away like Father.
Life wasn't always difficult you know, it used to be normal. When I was just a little boy, I would play catch with dad, tag with my sister, the, "normal," things. Now, it seems all I do is work in the fields, work for our lives. The reason it changed, was because of my stupidity. When I was a young boy, I loved exploring, every nook and cranny of my house, yard, and neighborhood I explored. I got into a lot of trouble one time. It was in the early hours, and I heard the guards. If I was caught, I would have gotten my learning permit stripped and forced to hard labor life. I knew that I could never last long with a life like that because I was so small, and had no muscles. I darted into the nearest house, which is the biggest regret of my life. It was owned by the mayor of the city, who had been on a short-fuse since his wife left him. It was understandable, I mean, I don't understand why anyone would like to be with him in the first place. He was a crabby man, tall, very strong, however, he was very influential. He inherited his family's wealth, making him the most powerful man in all of Brimsdale.
I had run into his house to a horrid stench, and a horrible sight. There was a stack of bodies on a table, ontop was his soon-to-be divorced wife. I couldn't help but yelp, which caused Mayor Bloomingbird's huge figure turn around
" I see we have a visitor. Well, we love visitors, don't we Marissa? What's your name little boy?" Bloomingbird's face lit up in an evilish smile, as he slowly crept over to me. He was a giant compared to me, and I had no clue what he would do to me.
" Please Mr. Bloomingbird, I won't tell anyone of this, it's our little secret. My lips are cealed." I made a zipping motion across my lips and Bloomingbird laughed, that devilish laughed.
" I know who you are, Peter Vlaugn. Oh my, the Vlaugn family sending out their son in the early hours to spy on me? I thought you were supposed to be in a smart family Peter, guess not. Your family will pay greatly for trying to discover my secret."
That's all I remember from the night, my next memories went by fast, and were blurry. Shit, their coming, they told me I would have a few more days. Untrustworthy sources, I cannot stay for I must start my journey.
