You can hang out with the opposite sex, but you really can't just hang out is what society tells you. The point of being around a guy is to find some tragic love story or to find yourself at a point of no return right?
Wrong.
I'm Hope, and I've dated all the wrong guys. From those who seemed innocently cute but in private had other intentions, to those of athletes who were mostly beat-brained. Not that all of them were though, Ferris was different from all the others, at first. He opened the door for me and took me on a lot of fun dates. Through the flowers and goofy smiles, I couldn't even see his true intentions coming my way until he started making out with me one night which unfortunately led to more.
I lost my virginity that night, and just to stir the poy he acted as if nothing ever happened. Like it didn't happen. The dates came to decrease and when his friends came around they talked about me, right in front of my face to him, like I was just a prize. I remember my best friend Hannah at the time telling me he was cheating on me but for an ignorant reason to do what I wanted to do, I ignored the claim.
Hannah had also told me that I should have told my mom that I lost my virginity. She'd always been somebody to confide in with good advice, but this? I didn't see away at the time. My mother was a Christian maniac and the reason I don't say religious is that it always seemed too harsh the way most people used it. Eventually, the emotional waves turned into a tsunami though, because when Ferris dumped me I came home balling my eyes out.
I shoved my backpack on the ground and stomped up our two-bedroom apartment stairs. I was too upset to think, too shaky to breathe, I collapsed on the floor nearby my bedroom door. My mother's feet rushed to my side but I didn't bother to look up.
"Elizabeth what's wrong? Are you hurt?" Her hand found my wet face and as she lifted my head towards her. The moment she found my blue eyes I knew she'd known in an instant. "Was it Ferris?"
The urge to lie was strong but instead, I insanely told her the truth. "Mom I gave Ferris everything! I loved him, I-I was t-there for him when nobody else was--" my words slipped out of my mouth before I could process them.
"He j-just dumped me, after everything!" My body shook at the words.
Her mouth twitched as she pulled me to her chest, "We'll talk more on that um.. everything part later okay? But right now let's just pray."
I sat up with a fit of anger in my chest. "How could I pray at a time like this? Mom, I gave that stupid guy my virginity! You expect me to just pray over that kind of thing?" A few breaths had left me after I said the heartbreaking sentence out loud.
She flinched at the word virginity before she hugged me again. My mother was so patient with me through that whole voice raising, that I couldn't help but find it surprising. When I realized she wasn't angry I burrowed into her arm. "Everything will be alright Elizabeth," he whispered, "I promise."
