Chapter 1 Introduction

Hello I’m Mary I am in year 11 at Hagel High. I have to do a dumb project for English. I have to write about my life and how it has changed. Here goes…

I was in year 7 and I have always been a Geek or as other people say it ‘nerd’ I have my best friends Kayla and Jodi. No other friends could have been any closer than us. Obviously we were all single because why would any boys talk to a couple of ‘nerds’? We had a normal life at Hagel high, we got pushed into lockers, our money got stolen you know the usual. Let me introduce ‘the poplar’s’. Ashly she was ‘the queen bee’ she told everyone else what to do and got everything she wanted including boys. Then there are Jessica and Amber they were the two sidekicks. Then theirs parker who is going out with Ashly. And finally Harlee and Randi who are going out with Jessica and Amber. Then there is my crush Bardon. With those gorgeous bright blue eyes and that golden hair that blows in the wind. But that could never happen I’m a geek, and he is the hottest guy in school plus he has a college girlfriend like seriously he is only year 11. Everyone wants to go out with him including Ashly which is why I have no chance, I mean every time he talks to me I just stare and try to let words out but it’s not happening. So I turn my head and walk away. What else would I do?

I had been in year 11 for two terms. Then a new guy walks into my class. I knew he was a popular straight away I could tell by his face and how he acted. I thought shit! There is only 1 seat in the class and that’s next to me! “Welcome Kortez, have a seat next to Mary. Everyone this is Kortez please make him feel welcome he is a new student at this school” Mr Anderson said. He sat down. I put my hand under my chin with my elbow on the table and kept writing, trying to ignore him. “Hello Mary, I’m Kortez nice to meet you” I turn my head and look at him with that look like why are you talking to me and I reply with “hey”. For the rest of the lesson we talked and talked. We got told off by Mr Anderson about 3 times. I had never been told off before. I felt rebel. We walked to the lockers how fortunate is it that his locker is right next to mine. I turned to him and said “why are you talking to me?” “What do you mean?” “you know, because I’m a ‘nerd’ and all” ”so why would I not talk to you because of that?” ”because you look like a popular and that’s what they all do”. Before Kortez could get another word in Ashly walked up to him “hey, you’re the new kid right? You’re pretty good looking. Want to have lunch with us today?” “Umm…” Kortez mumbled “coolness lets go” Ashly said as she grabbed his arm and walked away. “Hey who was that?” Jodi said. I turned in shock “who? What? Oh just the new kid, he’s in my English class” “ooh you have a crush on him” said Kayla as she chuckled. “no, no I don’t” I said with shock “haha okay, let’s go” Jodi said with a giggle.

It was after school and I was at my locker getting my stuff. I turn around and I bump into Kortez “oh sorry, I should watch where I’m walking” “It’s fine really” Kortez said with a little grin. I keep walking. “Hey? Wait up” I turn around, it was Kortez. What the hell was he doing? “Hey” he said while puffing. “I was wondering, you know how in English you told me that you wish you could be like Ashly? Well why don’t you?” “What? How?” I said with confusion. “Well… I was just thinking I could give you a makeover, you know from a man’s perspective, and I could pretend to go out with you for a while until you go out with Bardon, what do ya say?” “Mmm I don’t know about that” “c’mon Mary what have you got to lose?” “Hmm, okay why not” I hope I wasn’t make the wrong decision.
