I look around the classroom sensing that something is off, but not noticing what was off. As I investigate, I see the floor creaking, the students chatting, the vents whooshing, But In reality, nothing was wrong or upsetting but I guess it was all in this stupid little mind of mine, where I'm constantly anxious, or stressed.
As I plug in my earphones to try to focus and to finish my work, I notice a someone looking at me. It was my old friend Carson. "Hey Phoenix" he says, in a certain tone, I wave to him while I notice how his expression is a bit different.
Over the years I understood one specific thing about Carsons interesting body language and emotions, and I could tell he was in an upsetting mood. Now, when most people are in an upset mood, I highly doubt they come running to someone else to solve their problems. I took his wave as a way to tell me he was upset, and he needed my help. It was our thing, in the past.
We haven't talked in months, which is why I'm confused. He explains to me the reason why he wants my help is because when we in middle school, and in freshmen year I used to be like his "personal therapist.'' and apparently, I was "wise" which I can't argue with. We chat for a bit, and he tells me what's wrong.
"Remember Francis?" Carson says. I don't really remember Francis I thought. We've only met a few times, and in those times we met, we said the most foolish, moronic words we could have ever said, according to some people. To be fair, we both were maybe on drugs.
"Yeah, I'm sure I remember him" I reply
Carson explains Francis is coming back real soon. I actually appreciated the notice that Francis is coming, because whenever he shows up at school it's like the world turns upside-down. Last year in biology he had asked the teacher to go to the restroom, next thing you know you hear banging coming from across the hall, then you see him chase people with a shovel in his hand.
I also vividly remember a video getting leaked of him trying to hit old man Sparks with that very shovel. Francis really ran up on him with that damn shovel, but old thing old man Sparks knows karate, I guess.
Whenever I think about it, I wonder how he gets that shovel, it was bigger than his backpack and you couldn't even sneak that shit in through security.
I guess Carson has a lot of weight on his hands. He has to deal with a delinquent boy following him around, and he has to try to not get him into trouble. I admire Carson, so I'm glad Francis hasn't had much of an influence on him.
Sometimes I wonder where are Francis's parents at. I Remember asking Carson that some time ago. Apparently he doesn't even know. In grade school I remember seeing a man pick him up.
As me and Carson continue talking about Francis, the passing period bell goes off. We walk in the hallway together as we go to our next class.
