I was laying awake looking at my ceiling waiting for my alarm to go off. Thinking of what the day might bring. Beep! Beep! Beep! Beep! I rolled over and slapped the reset button on the alarm, pulling myself out of bed to get my clothes on. I walked out of my room and down the hall to the ketchen to eat my breakfast. As I reached up into the covert and knocked down the jar of peanut butter I yelped as it fell on my toe. This was going to be a bad day. After I finished getting ready I pulled on my shoes and winter jacket. The wind was cold and crisp as I started to walk to school, the wind nipping at my nose as I walked. The sky was overcrowded with light gray clouds. It felt like it might snow. I kicked a pebble on the sidewalk and watched it roll down till it stopped. "Malu!" I heard someone call my name and looked behind me to see Atlas running To me, his blond hair shining in the dim light of the sky . Atlas was one of my best friends. I have known him since Kindergarten. "Hey Atlas" I said as I stopped walking so he could catch up.
"Hi!" He managed though gasps.
"What's up?" I asked.
"Nothing much, by the way did you study for the big Social studies test today" he announced.
"Shoot! I forgot about that!" I shrieked.
"I'm sure you'll do fine" Atlas Protested. We continued to walk down the sidewalk. I couldn't help but feel my heart flutter inside my chest as we walked side by side. I looked up at him, his deep mocha colored brown eyes that seemed to be fixed on the school ahead of us. I ran a finger through my loss black curly hair, I was never much to look at, I had light green eyes, freckles, and I was as skinny as a rail. My foot went out from underneath me pulling me from my thoughts, I thought I was going to fall but I felt a hand grab my arm catching my fall "Th-thanks" I studered.
"You good?"Atlas asked, I could tell he was trying to hide his concern.
"Im fine, just had my head in the clouds" I said, still dazed.
"Okay" he said with hesitation. We walked through the school doors. We had five minutes to get to class. We had to run up the steps. We had no time for goodbyes. We ran to our lockers to get our stuff for first hour. I ran through the door just as the bell rang, I looked up and saw Atlas already sitting down talking to the boys. Gaja looked up at me as I sat down next to her, Gaja was my other best friend. "Hello Malu." she smiled, her blue eyes seemed to glow.
"Hey" I breathed.
"Why are you so late today?" She asked me, I didn't hear her I was staring at Atlas
"Malu!" Gaja said, waving her hand in front of my face.
"What!" I stammered being grabbed from my thoughts.
"Why were you so late?" Gaja repeated.
"I was walking with Atlas. I guess we lost track of time," I replied. I could tell she was about to reply but the teacher started talking. Why is math so boring? I thought. I started to work on my homework, but the bell rang when I was in the middle of it, causing me to jump from my seat. I scrambled to get my stuff together, There were a lot of kids in the hallway. I was almost to my locker when Atlas slammed into me making me fall backwards. "I'm so sorry," Atlas said, reaching a hand to help.
"I-I'm Fine," I studered, reaching for my stuff then grabbing his hand
"You sure you're good,"Atlas asked this time he wasn't hiding his concern.
"I'm sure," I sighed, starting to walk to Science. I looked over my shoulder at him to see those brown eyes looking back at me. I smiled but he had already started to run to his locker. The bell rang as I was walking but I didn't care, I was still thinking about Atlas, his deep brown eyes looking back into mine. I was three minutes late for class but the teacher didn't care. Soon Atlas came walking in and the teacher yelled at him. But, he didn't seem to care he came and snake down in the desk next to me
