"Well, i was talking about the golden gate bridge, but obviously you were on about something or perhaps someone different" Nick nudged my shoulder and he gestured towards the girl's whose name i had still yet to learn. "Is it that obvious?" I asked as I pulled my eyes away from her to meet him. "Kinda" he replied simply and I sighed in defeat. "You know, i kissed her" i told him, deciding it was better to talk about it to someone other than Neha. "really?" he asked, but with less surprise than I had expected. "Yeah back at the club, we were both drunk out of our minds though, and now that she's sober she's not gonna want anything to do with me" i complained, shaking my head at the thought as i looked out at the actual view, the lights reminding me of the way her eyes shone back in that room. "Look kid you killed it out there tonight" Nick told me and I shrugged it off, knowing he was just trying to cheer me up. "Right"
"No you were, did you have a good time?" he asked, watching my movements as I boxed up. "Yeah it was alright" I didn't want to give away the fact that I didn't mind tonight or the fact that I actually enjoyed the group's company. "It was alright, why do you do that?" The blonde questioned, studying my face for a truthful answer. "What do you mean, do what?" I responded, pretending not to know what he was on about. "Low ball me like that, come on, i'm not gonna take away your cool guy card if you admit you give a shit about something or god forbid you had a great time" i smirked and nodded a bit as i cleared my throat to talk again. "Alright it was fun."
"Stewie" Nick shook his head at my answer and pressed further for a better answer. "Come on" I turned fully towards him this time, as i spoke only to turn away again after, "What, what do you want me to say that it was the best night of my life" Nick eyes had never left me, it was like he was searching for something, it was like he could see right through my facade. "Only if it's true" I sighed, and looked back at him, uncrossing my arms as I lowered my emotional defence. "It was the best night of my life." I told the bloke honestly he smiled and held out his hands in praise. "My noogler, come here" Nick folded his hand into a ball and held it out towards me. "My noogler" I chuckled, returning the fist bump he had set up. "Now can you go over there and tell her that?" I gulped, nodded and began to walk off, leaving Nick with a huge smile on his face.
~~~Y/n's pov~~~
My eyes scanned over the water watching as the small movements of the boats left ripples of movements in the deceivingly calm river. It was like one big lie, the steady, cool water beckoning you in with the way to reflected the beauty of the city lights and how it gracefully lapped at the shore but as soon as you took the bate and took the risk to dive in, the current would grab you and throw you around like a rag-doll and all those promises of calm and beauty were lost in the casum you had become trapped in. A crunch in the grass behind me pulled me from my deep thought stage and I turned my head towards the boy who had joined me at my side.
"Hey" he said, his eyes trapped on the same horizon mine once were. "Hey" was all I replied with as I removed my eyes from his face and back to the lively city on the other side of the car infested bridge. "So I had fun tonight, just thought I'd tell you that" he continued, turning to face me as I did the same. "Well good, glad to see beanie boy off this for once" i said reaching towards my back pocket and pulling out the item i had shoved in there for safe keeping, holding it in the air. "Right well I actually don't have my beanie so you can't call me that, actually i don't know where it's..." I again reached into my pale green jacket pocket and pulled the dark blue beanie he was talking about and pulled it onto my head. "Ahh there it is, suits you actually" i laughed lightly at his compliment and handed him the phone that was still in my curled up hand. "Thanks for that, did um you have fun?"
"Yeah, surprisingly I did." I told him and our gazes met before we shied away to look back out over the river. After a while of comfortable silence I sighed deeply before breaking it. "y/n"
"What?" Stuart asked, his attention back on me. "y/n...that's my name" a massive grin appeared on Stuart's face, as if he had just been given the greatest gift on earth, he muttered my name a couple times to himself. No one had ever said my name in that way before, as if it were so special he was scared to speak it. As if it were a timid animal, sacred too easily, that would disappear if he spoke it any louder. I walked away from him, a funny feeling in my stomach that I had grown to like, a feeling I only associated with Stuart seeing as it only occurred around him.
"y/n, that's a great name...i shall call you y/n/n" a still heavily drunk Lyle said as he approached me after overhearing our conversation. "No you, won't...you will call me y/n, actually no...scratch that don't call me...ever" Stuart laughed as he joined me at my side. "How about a last name?"
"Yeah nice try buddy" I laughed, settling on a bench with Twombly hopping on next to me. The nickname buddy had stung Stuart a little but he chose to brush past it and talk to y/n more about everything that happened when they were fully sobered up. He kept running the name through his mind y/n, y/n, y/n on constant repetition like the lyrics to a song or the lines of a poem. The sound of wrapping broke another silence as lyle stumbled over phone in hand, "Lyle! Looks like you hit it off with Saffron tonight." Nick said, walking over to the rest of us. "I'm texting her that I love her and sending a picture I just took of little Lyle when he made pee in the bushes. Look, he's winking." Lyle started to show us before I quickly protested. "Oh honey no we don't want to see that."
"Y/n shush, stop your shouting" my hand went to my face as all but Stuart looked my way. "Firecracker has a name" Billy stated, excitedly. I smiled sheepishly as I noticed the glare from Neha. "You told Lyle of all people?" she asked, questioning my judgment. "No, I told Stuart...Lyle just overheard us." The look of shock on her face was soon replaced with a smirk and a look of 'I told you so' sent in Stuart's direction which confused me but I blew it off and focused on the matter at hand. "Lyle, that's a horrible idea, you're drunk off your ass."
"I appreciate your concern, but i'm flying baby." he replied, obviously not 'flying'. Both Billy and Stuart began asking the kid some mathematical questions when an idea popped into my head. It must have happened to Nick too because our expressions mirrored each other's. "That's our app," he started. "What?" the group questioned. "A quiz question you have to answer before sending a drunk text or email or phone call.'' I continued leaving room for the blonde to add on. "Something to protect you from yourself."
"That's really good, can we do that?" Billy asked, looking around the crowd of people for some form of response. "Hells, yeah we can do that" Neha's enthusiasm stirring a very hungover Yo-yo, "Are you shitting me. I could code the shit out of that on the bus ride home."
"Well I'll take that as an overwhelming yes!" Come on!" We all began to get up to leave before Stuart called out. "Hang on w..wait. Let's...Let's stay like five minutes. Enjoy the view a little more" I smiled up at the now standing boy and nodded at him to take a seat by me again. "All right" Nick said as all the others joined us on the benches. Stuart jumped a bit as a weight appeared on his shoulder, only to look down to see a y/h/c girl nuzzling into the crook of his neck. He smiled to himself and rested his head on top of hers, looking back out over the view along with everyone else.
