Two:

Andreux Pierre Clark

As I tried to sit through church I couldn't help but to think of the things that took place the night before. I wasn't one to partake in anything like that, but as a man I had to admit I was enticed. Shawty had her ass all over me. I'd be a liar if I said I didn't grab it a few times. Just the thought had me on edge and I wasn't in the right place to be thinking it. I had to shake it off.

"Boy you sweating like a crackhead on the corner in July." My brother whispered next to me snapping me out of my thoughts as he handed me a Kleenex.

Adjusting my collar I smoothed out my slacks before trying to reposition myself in my seat. Taking the Kleenex I dabbed the sweat from my forehead. It was hot enough in the building as it was from the air going out and I was on a first class trip to hell.

"How he got all these people in here burning up like this and he up there under that big ass fan talking nonsense?" Sergio whispered again causing me to shrug.

"Ionno, but be quiet before he ask us to talk or something. I'm ready to go." I said tight lipped trying not to bring any attention to us.

We opted out of sitting front row with my mama and sat a couple rows toward the back. If it was up to me I'd still be at home, but my father insisted that we come to his hot ass church today to hear the word. Sometimes I questioned the messengers God let preach his word. My daddy wasn't no saint. He barely made time for his family yet here he was trying to convince these people that he had the key to keep their families joined with his anointing. Another reason I found my own spiritual outlets.

I started to understand why some people took the word of strangers over those closest to them so often. It was easier to hear a story or take advice from one you knew nothing about personally to keep you from subconsciously passing judgment as opposed to someone you knew too much about.

"I just want to say thank you God for providing a roof over our heads and a building for us to rejoice in, in your name father. I know that everything you do is with purpose. It might be a little hot in here, but a little heat ain't nothing to stop us from serving you. Can I get an amen?"

"Yes God."

"Thank you Jesus."

"Amen. Amen."

"Today I was thankful waking up to my beautiful wife and our two amazing sons. My youngest son Andreux is back at home for a while. They got him up at Moorehouse studying medicine to become a doctor. A black doctor at that." He said making me sigh as everyone praised as they turned looking back at me.

"Yes lord I'm thankful everyday for family. For my congregation. For the opportunity to serve." He said closing his eyes as the music began to play in the background. "If I could go off script for just a second and let my sons come up and lead us in a song.

"Bro he always got some bullshit going on. First I don't even get a shoutout and now I gotta sing too?" Sergio said under his breath before standing up and walking to the front.

Shaking my head I took a deep breath before following his lead. I hated being put on the spot. A nigga wasn't no Chris Brown or Usher but I could hold a note or two. Sergio wasn't too bad either. My dad was just annoying.
