A drop of sweat perspired from my body, but it mixed with the tears coming from my eyes so that I couldn't tell where the tears began and the sweat ends. I was consumed by heat and pain while I dig a useless hole in the onion patch. It was the only way for me not to feel the grief of my fathers death. I couldn't even hear the loud and annoying jingle of the horses of the kings men. I couldn't help myself from gasping as a worm came out of the large white onion I pulled from the ground. I didn't gasp at the worm, I am the son of a farmer. Worms are an evadible part of my life. I gasped because I had never seen a worm eat a bitter and sour onion like the ones my family grew at their farm. As far back as anyone can remember my family has been growing onions here in The Kingdom of Elementius. It was depressing almost, I was doomed to be an onion farmer for the rest of my life. I have been rotting away here for sixteen miserable years. I don't know how much more I can take.
I could feel the worm squirming in my hands. "Hey, little guy," I whispered. I put him in the dirt, of the hope he would survive. I knew it was pointless, but after my father's death, I realized that any life is worth saving. I jumped as a deep booming voice asked me "Are you, Damon!?" I respond as coldly as I could "Who's asking." Of course, I knew who was asking. It was another of the Kings guards, just trying to bother us. It took all of my strength to resist slapping him. His beard was a dirty blond that had chunks of dirt and blood stained into it. His uniform had a shiny gold dragon sewed into it. Of course, the kings men had a golden dragon sewed to their shirts while the rest of the kingdom was struggling to live.
These men did nothing to help us. They didn't help us when my father died trying to protect our home. They didn't come after cry and cry for help. Without warning the soldier threw him to the horse nearest. I struggled, the King could not control my life and he could definitely not order his guards to pick me up without warning. But, alas I can't shake the guards steel hands. Let me go! I screamed. The solder was silent. My mother came out of the house galloping towards us. Yelling "Don't hurt my little Damey!" I cringed as she yelled my nickname. She continued "Where are taking my boy!" "King Roland Demands his presence." The guard sneered. My mother stopped, her eyes became dark as night. We hate the king, and that might ensure my death. "Mom, stop let me go," I told her. The last thing I want is for her to get hurt. She already has to deal with so much. That's the one thing I love about the farm. My mom.
"The King has chosen him." The Guard said quietly. "Chosen my child for what." My mother demanded. I gave a warning glance to my mother. She wasn't supposed to ask the guard questions. Peasants were not allowed to speak unless spoken to. That rule is courtesy of the king. "I don't have to answer you peasant." the guard said cruelly. Why would he answer, he is much higher up on the unjust social pyramid. The soldier kicked the horse and we speed away. I looked back on my home wondering when Ill see it again, or if Ill ever see it again. I hear my mother call out "I love you my boy and Godspeed."
