"Come on man, quit lagging!"
"Shut up you are just speeding."
"Haha very funny."
I laugh softly to myself as walk down the sidewalk with my hands in my sweater pockets, bantering with my friend from high school. He and I had managed to stick together throughout middle and high school despite our differences. Tygus, my friend, was born missing an eye, heavily affecting his aim. He was always confident and a never say die, guy. I, however, was a very cautious and shy person at times. I had both my eyes but a weird case where my skin didn't heal a lot of the time and usually would be left scared. We thought it was related to my quirk but we couldn't find DNA evidence of it being connected.
Neither of us were quite outcast though and I can't rule out our quirks playing a hand in that. He had the ability to manipulate bullets and items that have gunshot residue. He ended up finding out about it when he was a hostage in a bank robbery. Saved a woman and luckily a hero showed up before they had a chance to turn on him. The supposed badass calls it gunwire. I've got the quirk called InnerBlaze. With it, I can raise my body temperature to extremely high temps, and when it exceeds what humans skin and flesh can normally take, a scale-like coat wish sheen over the part of my body with the quirk activated or my whole body. I've even been told my head will have horns and my hair disappear. If only I got some claws too. It's odd though because I don't remember how it surfaced. There was a day I went to school and I forgot what happened until the next day and then I knew about it. Even my parents knew and it's not like I accidentally went berserk at school, everything was fine and there were no reports about anything happening that day.
"Hey, Xavier, you are spacing out again," Tygus said as he pulled me out of the way of a bus stop. I laugh a bit nervously as I look at him.
"Sorry about that, bit ironic that the one missing an eye sees better than me."
"Yeah, you'd still be a nobody if you didn't roll with me."
I then sigh as we kept walking. "Ever so humble, arent cha."
"Well duh." He laughed.
I just rolled my eyes as we soon made it to our neighborhoods and said our goodbyes for the day. Walking home it was already getting dark as I look at my watch and sure enough, was already eight. Kinda wasn't ready for it. Disregarding my ability to lose track of time, despite loving watches, I walked over to my house, a small 2-story with a large fenced backyard.
Once inside the foyer of the house, I looked to my left and caught a glimpse of myself in a tacky mirror my mother put up. I saw an 18-year-old boy, slender and of average height at 5' 9". Jet black hair and He wore an old red hoodie that had plenty of holes and burn marks from both his quirk. Ironically his black jeans were in pretty good shape other than a few pale spots where expanding foam got stuck on them. I was having a good day, but the guy in the mirror looked exhausted, mentally and physically. Oh yeah, that's me in the mirror. Gosh, I need to be aware of my social battery more often.
Finally pulling myself from the mirror I walked into the kitchen realizing the house was quiet. Then I saw a note on top of a warm pizza box and I knew my family wasn't home. I opened up the box and grabbed a slide and started eating while I read the notes.
I and your father went out for dinner, and your siblings are both at the skate park with KC again, told them to leave a warm pizza for you. Love you xoxo.
I sigh a bit as I finish my slice of pizza and set the note down.
"Home alone again then. Alright, what to do." I said out loud to get my brain thinking a bit more. I then decided to get some overdue homework done, so I grabbed the pizza box and rush upstairs to my room. After kicking off my shoes and changing into some sweat pants, I say down at my desk and opened up my laptop, and started doing a few different assignments, bouncing back and forth between them.
"This is more than I expected I had to do. I need to get better at getting these done." I say to myself as I continue to work through most of the night, inevitably falling asleep in my chair, just past midnight, with everything finished from one mad dash.
I blink a bit and look around, seeing nothing but fog. What happened to my homework? Then I hear a shout from the right or was it the left? I turn and run to it as I try to tell out whos there, but I couldn't hear my voice. Shocked I keep running and then I run into something. I shook my head and felt myself stand up as I hear a voice.
"Stand up."
I opened my eyes again and saw a shadow of a person, but it was more of a grey rather than black.
"If you see me then you must step up to the mantle that is open to you." It said, and as I tried to respond the shadow rose its hand.
"You will understand. The truth is near. Wake up to it." And then these glowing red eyes open in the shadow. I could feel a shot of fear, as I sensed its drive for justice and fury for the unheard.
"WAKE UP." It shouted again as I shoot up from the chair of my desk and gasp for air, panting in a cold sweat. A dream, an intense one.
"...what the..." I've had intense dreams before about falling to help out a family member, but nothing like this. Why now? Nothing has been stressing me out this much, was it somehow not a dream? No, I've been watching too much tv again wanting some story to start in my life. I thought to myself as I stand up and hear talking downstairs. Likely my family talking at the breakfast table.
I rub my eyes as I sigh and look at my laptop and go on to check my assignments to make sure they went through, thankfully they did. Before standing up I checked youtube to see if anything new got uploaded and my eyes widen when I see the front page plastered with live streams of a hero and villain fight, involving Allmight!
Quickly I opened it and started watching a fight that truly was not done justice by just the video. The number 1 hero is being beaten down as if his strength was nothing. How could that be? No one can match all might. When that spoke it was hard to hear much, but in Allmights voice, I could hear it. He may have even hated him. I stood up from my chair as I saw Allmight down and bleeding as he changed, the villain shouting and calling it his true form. The whole thing seemed like a mind game more so than a power fight.
"Get up.." I said as I clench my fist a bit. It's 8 am and I woke up to the best hero in japan on his knees. The villain raised a giant fist to strike him down and I looked away, not wanting to see his light die out. I then hear a boom from my speakers, as everything went silent.
I looked back at the screen, and I saw the symbol of peace with his fist lifted high, as he somehow won despite his clear struggle. I sat back down in disbelief unable to process what happened until he pointed at the camera and said.
"You're next."
