Pretty (Akaashi x Reader)

chapter thirteen

You had just bumped into your crush because you apparently have the spatial awareness of a toddler and now you were looking into his beautiful green eyes as he gripped onto your lower back and the first thing you decide to comment on is his choice in eyewear. You were a certified lost caused.

"Oh, uh, yeah," Akaashi stuttered a little, not yet moving away from you, you could feel his warm breath.

"I like them," Again, why? 

Let's just say it was to break the tension. Yeah. You guys were friends. You can compliment your friend's glasses without it being weird. You would do the same to Bokuto. Although admittedly, it felt a bit more loaded with meaning when you said it to Akaashi, especially when he was holding you like this, so closely you could almost feel his chest rise against yours.

"Uh, thank you," If you didn't know any better, you would've said you saw the soft pink of a blush warm his cheeks.

It was at this moment he seemed to suddenly realize the compromising position the pair of you were in. He scrambled to pull you into a more upright position before frantically removing his hand from your back and taking an unnecessarily large step away from you.

There was a moment of silence. It dragged on for what felt like an eternity as you mentally scolded yourself for how that situation had just panned out.

"We should get going," You commented quietly, "I think we're already running late."

Akaashi didn't say anything else, just swallowed thickly as he nodded in agreement before turning in the direction of the restaurant.

The short walk there was immensely awkward, you felt a compulsion to break the silence but you weren't really sure what to say to him. So you said nothing, you both walked in the door without uttering another word and neither of you spoke until you cast your gaze around the place to find where Bokuto was sat; you thanked your lucky stars that he wasn't easy to miss.

Of course, the first thing Bokuto did was envelope the pair of you in a large bear hug. It was sweet of him but the feeling of Akaashi pressed up against you yet again was not exactly ideal. He introduced his boyfriend -Kuroo Tetsurou- to you pretty much immediately after, gushing about how great he was as the black haired man stood to give you a much gentler hug. He loomed over you and you wondered how it was possible that there was someone taller than Akaashi and Bokuto.

Kuroo, thankfully, had already met Akaashi and so didn't feel the need to embarrass you with another group hug. You introduced yourself to him with a smile, aware of Bokuto motioning for Akaashi to sit next to him on the little table of four. Kuroo took his seat opposite Bokuto, leaving you no other option but to sit across from Akaashi. Perfect. 

Throughout the whole meal, you attempted to avoid any eye contact or direct conversation with Akaashi while still remaining friendly. You guys were still friends, after all. Just friends. It wasn't too hard to have a nice dinner at least;  Bokuto loved to talk animatedly and his boyfriend -while not as loud or rambling as Bokuto- could tell an engaging story. 

They were, admittedly, a lovely couple. Kuroo seemed very nice - if a bit on the sarcastic side, not that you minded that - and they obviously cared greatly for each other. You watched as they held hands across the table, Bokuto rubbing small circles on the back of Kuroo's hand with his thumb. And you saw the way Kuroo watched his boyfriend spin tales with the most adoration in his eyes. It was very sweet to see. You asked them questions about their relationship and they were happy to supply all the sickeningly sweet details for the whole of the dinner.

"Anyways," Kuroo spoke at a lull in the conversation, "What about you two? How long have you been dating?"

Your face dropped. You couldn't see it but Akaashi's did the same. Your jaw dropped open a little as you floundered for words but none came. Akaashi made no attempt to speak. Why was this guy under the impression that you two were dating? Were you that obvious with your crush hat this stranger actually thought the pair of you were in a full-blown relationship?
