dear Lilith,

it's the 30th of December 1846.

I just turned 16!

i wore my favourite gown today with some beads hanging all around the corset and my favourite pair of black shoes.

oh dear, my father gifted me such a pleasant gift.

He gifted me a golden locket with two little pictures inside it. he told me to keep it safe and always wear it as if it's a part of me. I swear to my own soul, I will never lose it. I will even wear it when I go to sleep!

aunt jane gifted me a porcelain doll. it might sound pretty ridiculous and childish to you but for me, she's so precious. I named her Lilith too so that when you're not here I would hold her close till the night passes hiding all my pain away.

my friends, Beth and Edward came to the ball too. When father was not paying attention, we snuck out to the terrace to get some fresh air and talk about a gazillion of things. And yes, we got caught but by my sweetest housekeeper, aunt Elise. who promised me that she will never tell father about it.

today life took so many turns. Arthur Wrightwood came to visit me.

he is the youngest son of uncle Wrightwood, a close partner and friend to my father.

I haven't seen him in 10 years. He used to be my best friend. when uncle used to visit father, he used to bring Arthur along. we used to play for hours in my playhouse. I don't even remember how many cups of tea I made for him. he was quite a chubby lad before but when I saw him today, it felt like my heart skipped a beat. he was tall, smart and his charms were so beautiful.

With a magnificent bouquet of wisterias in his hand. he walked towards me and, I couldn't even look at him properly. I'm mighty sure he saw my tinted red cheeks. oh, I'm still so embarrassed!

as I'm writing this, the winter sky is getting darker, the moonlight is peeking through my window and the gentle heat from the fireplace is giving is such a profound comfort. it's like the day is shouting and crying about how the world is slowly healing, how I and my broken heart is healing itself.

I may not know what tomorrow holds but for sure, it will bring numerous changes.

the 16th chapter of my life will be quite different.
