The Girl in Apartment 4-D

Start from the beginning

Time passed slowly,

Before we came to a stop,

The doors opened again,

I was pulled to my feet,

Then the gruff man spoke,

“Evan where is it?”

Silence

“I was fucking talking to you Evan.”

“I don’t have it Jordan,”

My thoughts went out the window,

My dad really knew this man,

And by name none the less,

There was a push in my back,

And I hit the gravel brining me back to reality,

“Your precious baby girl,

Isn’t enough to talk you into paying,”

“I don’t have it,”

My dad said almost pleading,

“Give me another 12 hours.”

Jordan laughed,

“500 Thousand dollars in 12 hours.”

“Yes.”

My dad responded.

They picked me up again,

And threw me into the vehicle,

There was silence before it started again,

And we were moving again,

I was dragged up stairs,

After we stopped again,

And into a room,

And tossed to a tiled floor,

I wiggled my body enough,

To learn my surroundings were that of a bathroom,

My hands were still behind me,

I strained my ears,

And heard a new man talking,

“How did you find this?”

“Luck.” Jordan replied,

“So what now?”

There was a pause,

“We wait.” He said.

“If they don’t come through,”

There was another pause,

“Kill her,

And call it even.”

I began to sob,

And cried myself to sleep,

When I woke up,

The hood was gone,

And Jordan was in the hallway,

“Good of you to join us Evan.”

I turned my head and saw my dad,

Who caught my eye,

He had a bag in one hand,

“I’m glad you came through,

Would you like to see your daughter?”

He ran by without a second thought dropping the bag,

They picked it up and opened it and found what they were looking for,

“Well Evan, I’d say we’re even,

You’ll learn next time you make deals with people like us.”

He nodded,

In a flash Jordan had a gun out pointed at me and pulled the trigger,

The world went black for what felt like ages,

Finally I came too and appeared to be laying on the bed,

Of the apartment,

Hello,

I called,

With no response,

I walked around the apartment,

My body was in the bathtub,

A single gunshot in the head,

Everyone else was gone,

Even my dad,

I began to sob again,

And the world went black one more time,

When I came to again I realized the police had been in,

And moved my body,

As I watched I felt something touch me,

And I turned to see my dad,

“What happened?”

“Men like Jordan never keep their words,

I managed to find my way back to you,

And now we’ll be together in eternity,”

My dad than gave me a hug,

I felt anger,

Sorrow,

And resentment,

Knowing that we would forever be stuck,

To live a life within the mirrors,

And hallways of this apartment building,

I’m happy I’m not alone,

Though I think there’s something my dad isn’t telling me,

The small glimmer that used to be in his eyes is gone,

And there seems to be an evil,

That resides there,

Maybe I’ll find out one day,

Then again,

Maybe I won’t,

Until than I will forever be the Girl,

With her dad,

Author’s Notes:

“The Girl in Apartment 4-D” came to me like a lot of ideas do nowdays, out of nowhere. This one started with the first four lines seeming to repeat themselves in my head and I couldn’t shake them. When I sat down to write it I didn’t quite know where I was going to go with it but after a few tweaks I ended up at the product that you just read. I know the ending may spark a few questions and I’ll say that I want you to draw your own conclusions from the ending. I have my thoughts on why the evil is in his eyes but you may have your own. I left it opened for that reason. If you’d like to share your thoughts and what you think the ending means comment or send me an email to robinsonwritings@hotmail.com I’d love to hear from you.
