It's Hard to Let Go

Today, I am facing the setting sun, taking a deep breath. Reminiscing the past that I once shared with the girl I love... I am walking along this lonely road, thinking of ending my life, escaping from the pain I am feeling right now. Should I jump over the cliff at my right? Or should I just lay down this cold road and wait for a vehicle to crash this mind so that I would stop thinking about her.
Just a year ago, I met the lovely girl I never imagined that would change my life forever. She is Athenelia, from her name you could imagine what she is like. Her name is from the Greek goddess Athena, the goddess of wisdom and war. She is indeed full of wisdom, full of wits. You can never win on a debate if you will challenge her. She's wild and daring. She is not the Maria Clara type that you expect her to be. She is more of a Princess Urduja than a Maria Clara.
On one sunset, just like this day, I was riding on my scooter, just wandering along the countryside when I first met her. She was climbing up the tree. I thought she needed help. So I got out from my scooter, pulled her down and asked if she was okay. To my great surprise, she slapped and yelled at my face saying...
"Are you nuts? Who said that I needed your help? Idiot!!!"
After hearing her say that, of course it made me mad. I was the one who helped her on the first place yet she has the guts to slap and yell at me? Who does she think she was...?
"Hey girl, I was just trying to help you. Is that the right attitude to say thank you?"
"I don't need your help, okay? I did not even call for you to help me."
"You almost fall on that tree, is that what you insist that you don't need my help?"
"Mister, we are having our photo shoot, okay? Just look behind you, our crew does not need any disturbances from you..."
Hearing what she said, I turned around and saw lights, cameras and of course the director. To my embarrassment, I just bowed my head and rode back to my scooter. I would never forget our first meeting and how embarrassed I was...
Days passed, as I am having a vacation on my cousin's house on their province, I slowly forgot about that incident. My cousin was a farmer. Our family is not rich. My mother is a fish vendor and my father is a fisherman. To help my parents, I deliver fish for them using my scooter. Even though life is hard, I am contended. I am happy of what the Lord had given to my family.
One morning, my cousin invited me for a little 'salu-salo' at the farm. He said that the Señora had gotten home and wanted to visit he farm. He said that the Señora was very kind, beautiful and doesn't look down to small people like us. Even though she is rich, she knows everything that has to do with farming. He said that she could be a great farmer because of her talent.
On the little nipa hut, the farmers prepared camote, cooked banana, bagoong and daing. Those were the Señora's favorites. I observed them; they all seemed to love their Señora very much. I watched the horizon; waiting with them for the Señora to come. My little wait was not wasted, not very far from the hut I saw a white horse coming. As it got nearer, I can almost see the figure that was riding on it. From the way she handled the horse, she was an expert. It got really nearer; this time I can almost see her face. It stopped on the hut where I and the farmers were waiting. The farmers were very happy. The Señora went down from the horse, got her helmet off and waved to the farmers. She glanced at me and smiled.
With a certain blink of an eye, I was mesmerized by her charm. I thought everything was a slow mo. She was like a lovely goddess who came down from heaven to reach out to her people. She is indeed charming... no words could ever define her beauty.
