Ding, the seatbelt sign turned on, the turbulence was getting much worse. Cali pushed me, telling me to put my seat belt on. I rolled my eyes and put the strap over my waist. It was almost our turn to get snacks but of course the flight attendant stopped right before us. By the time I finished watching the last bit of my Stranger Things episode the snacks had arrived. I chose pringles and ginger ale, Cali took a kitkat and a sprite.
I closed my eyes and was woken up by the sound of the plane wheels screeching upon the ground. The hostess came around collecting our garbage and telling us that we will be able to get off soon. The pilot announced that there would be a delay because the airport wasn't aware that our plane was arriving. I complained to Cali about the terrible service. Looking behind me for a stewardess, I see something strange. Not a flight attendant but a black figure, I turned back around dismissing what I had just seen. We got off the plane with no more trouble. Cali and I waited for our taxi to take us to our resort. "Right on time," I cheerfully stated as the taxi driver pulled up alongside us!
It took us around ten minutes to get to our resort, The Secrets of Mexico. As we were let through the gates I had this eerie feeling that I was being watched. I looked over to Cali who was sitting aross from me and I questioned her "Did you feel that too?"
She looked at me and nodded in agreement. The chauffeur told us to get out. I motioned towards my money asking him how much and he responded with a simple, "No."I was confused but left the car anyways, what a weird man I told Cali walking towards our unit 312. I've seen that number somewhere, but where. Was it on the plane, was it on th-, oh, oh yes my boarding pass, I looked over beside me and there it was, written in the same fine print as the numbers on the door 312.
Cali yelled "C'mon what's taking you so long." with a tone of annoyance in her voice
I mumbled something not so PG just loud enough for Cali to hear. She ignored me and just told me to look at the view. My jaw dropped in aw toward the beautiful sun on the lustrous green palm trees. It wasnt the kind of beauty that would leave you in awe, it was the kind that was almost eerie. I looked toward her in amazement and pinched myself, this has to be a dream. The landscape seemed to almost have a strange film. It was like a force field, a transparent blanket, it was there but it wasnt. I could not imagine this vacation to become any more strange.
Cali and I walked towards the lunch bar hoping to get a bite to eat. Fortunately the bar was open although there seemed to be a lack of any people, not a single soul around other than Cali the shopkeer and I. I asked him,"Do you guys have club sandwiches''
He responded,"Yes but we unfortunately dont have tomatoes, I'm sorry for the inconvenience." I nodded for him to just make the sandwich because I didn't care if there were tomatoes or not. As we waited for our food I noticed something out of the corner of my eye, not a person perhaps but a figure. I looked towards the direction of the figure and saw nothing. Nothing, I questioned myself looking away in confusion, was I going crazy. No, no I couldn't be, I erased the possibility from my mind. I looked over to Cali and she motioned for me to come get my food, it was ready to eat. We brang the sandwiches up to our room, and sit to eat. I mention to her what happened at the bar and she tells a similar story. I knew it, I knew I wasn't seeing things.
Shivers, I feel eyes on me, someone, something is watching us. I look over at Cali and I see fear in her eyes. She tells me "Don't look behind you." Trembling, I turn my head ninety degrees and see something out of a nightmare. A black evil looking shadow with teeth, so many teeth, rows upon rows of pearly white dagers. A drip of saliva falls down the beast's mouth. "RUN," Cali screams. I bolt to the door in desperation, anything, anything to get out of his reach. Cali running just ahead of me trips over her untied shoelaces, continuing sprinting I hear a scream. In a split second I turn around and see her decapitated head off her lifeless body, the shimmer in her eyes gone replaced with a ghostly look of terror. I cryed in utter fear and pain. The monster turned its head towards me and I ran, I ran until my body dropped of exaustion, passing the gate exiting the hotel and dropping. The grains of crushed rock on my delicate skin, the light sound of the waves crashing ashore, bliss pure bliss I mumble to myself as my eyes droop and finally come to a close.
2 weeks later
"James, James, are you awake,"my mom, (my mom?) whispers to me with a clear lump in her throat. I open my eyes in disbelief, where am I? "Sweetie, do you remember what happened"
"No, wait, maybe, oh yes, Cali and I were at this resort that we got very creepy vibes from and we- Cali," I asked, "Where is she?" My mother looked down at me in disappointment, I knew right away, she's dead, gone forever. It all came back to me in a rush of sorow, I burst into tears, my mother embraced me wrapping her arms around my body. We sat like this for 10 minutes straight. I pulled away and looked into her eyes, red and puffy. She tells me about the discovery of a new species, shadow stalker. I questioned her if that was the thing that killed Cali. She nodded her head and turned toward the Television. The news repoter starts talking about us. My face pops up on the screen and I gasp. I look horrible, my eye bruised and tubes shoved in me every which way. My eyes fill with tears once again and I lay upon the bed. I look up and just think about what has happened to me. The weight on my chest has gotten ever so strong, the immense pressure building. Did I kill her, my own ignorance of the people around me, killing my bestfriend.
