Every line. Every description, quote, legible mark on a signpost. It bent to the will of whomever behind the rectangle's glow.
The opposing strings. The char black, unwavering, ever-present wire of death. The glittering, flexible, painfully thin thread of life. They called to each other, snaking around all others, as they drew towards each other. It was hard to believe the last time this had happened, it had been for a butterfly.
The helix. Eternal spiral. Death and life coiled and spun, never going to touch, but the distance between them was still shrinking. A glimmering light appeared in the middle of it all.
The light shone brighter, it would have been blinding to anyone near. It swelled and its glow spilled further outward, before it erupted in a flash, and fizzled out. Gone as soon as it had come to be. But the deed had been done. The wire and the thread went back to their places, and almost everything was the same.
You are forever responsible for the things you have made.

An inhale and an exhale.
Somewhere far away, a crowned figure sat up.
