she was always a rough child growing up. they claimed her father hadn't given her enough attention. they claimed she was born a wild fairy and would stay one until her wings grew in. they said she was of the swamp and no one should trust her. i, of course, saw this as a sign to take her in. my children at the time were around her age. dream was a stubborn boy, often running to play with the other boys at a friends house and stay the night. foolish? he paid no attention to me or my endeavors. all his time was in his sandbox i built outside. he built worlds in that dirty pit, worlds he would later recreate. i had no idea of course. but i encouraged it anyway. maybe that's why i took hannah in. maybe i was lonely. my departed soulmate rested in the clouds, a god among men. i considered them such. they may not have been...no one quite knows in this world anymore. but i like to think they were a god and now they watch over me. pretty immature. but i think of it now as i stand over the body of a lost friend, lava cascading around me. i think of it now as i look at the child i used to think of as my daughter as her eyes fill with hatred and tears. i think of it as i pull the axe back and attack her to save her.
