Sky, a five-year-old girl who loved to draw, was drawing on the floor of her bedroom. Ever since she'd received some coloured pencils, she'd done nothing but draw. Her mother was sleeping in the bed next to her and her father was at work. When Sky heard the bedroom door open slowly and saw her father, she smiled. He motioned for her to be quiet and pointed to her mother, who was still asleep. The girl nodded and went back to her drawing. Her father sat down next to her and watched her draw. She felt her father run his hand through her hair, then across her face. He cupped her chin, making her look at him, and then pressed his lips against hers. This left her feeling very confused. It didn't take long for him to stop and get up, leaving the room. Sky then dropped her coloured pencil on the floor and lay down on the bed where her mother had been sleeping.
Ten years had passed since the incident, but the girl could never forget what had happened. She had even tried to talk to her mother about the stares, touches and kisses she had experienced, but her mother had ignored her and told her to do the same. As a result, she ended up withdrawing into herself, finding it very difficult to make friends or open up to anyone. As she was considered "strange" and "quiet", people preferred not to approach her, except for one girl. Alice was the only person who reached out to her and wanted to get to know her better. It was an inseparable friendship that turned into an inseparable relationship. Alice was one of the few people Sky felt comfortable telling about her sexuality, and she was one of the most supportive people in her life. However, this friendship soon began to change when the two realised they had feelings for each other. Sky asked Alice to be her girlfriend, and she accepted right away. By then, the two had been together for almost five months; Alice's family knew about their relationship and were very supportive of it. Sky's family, on the other hand, knew nothing about it, except for her grandmother, who was another person Sky felt comfortable confiding in about her sexuality and relationship. Sky's grandmother accepted her and her girlfriend, and helped them keep their relationship a secret from their parents. After school, Sky and Alice would often go to her grandmother's house so their parents wouldn't suspect a thing.
Sky didn't like going home, but she had her reasons, she didn't feel comfortable around her father and would stay away from home whenever she could. However, her parents were very strict and wouldn't let her sleep at anyone's house except close relatives, such as her grandmother, uncles or aunts. It was already quite late when Sky and Alice left her grandmother's house. As they neared Sky's parents' house, Alice slowly let go of her hand.
Sky-....Sorry
Alice- Don't worry, sweetheart. I know parents can be difficult sometimes, but it's not their prejudice that's going to make me give up on you, quite the opposite.
Sky smiled and hugged Alice before going inside. She took the lift up to her apartment, but to her surprise, her father was already waiting for her at the door.
Philip- Who was that?
Sky- A friend?!
Philip- Why did you hug her like that?
Sky- A show of affection?
Philip- I don't want to see you hugging any of your friends like that, do you hear me?
Sky- But what's the big deal? She's just my friend.
Philip- I don't want to see you hugging anyone, you hear me?
Sky was reluctant but thought it best to just agree- ...Yeah.
Defeated, Sky heads to her room, but then she feels her phone vibrate. Someone has sent her a text. When she checks it, she sees that it's a message from Alice saying, "You shouldn't have done that... I don't want your parents to stop me from seeing you."Sky smiles, opens the chat with Alice and quickly replies, "I'd find a way to see you. I just wish they were more understanding, but if they don't like it, that's their problem."She sends the message and immediately lies down on her bed, resting her face on the pillow. Just then, she heard someone open the door. She glanced towards the door and quickly sat up in bed.
