Aleena

Moving to Springfield didn't seem like a bad idea at first, she thought she had her whole life mapped out but just like all times, fate seems to be against her.

Aleena had never thought there could be anything more to the little town, She had graduated from NYU not more than a year ago and just as she had planned, Joe proposed to her a month later.

Their wedding would have been the talk of the town, even when Joe had asked of her to leave her penthouse in chicago and follow him to Springfield, she sold both her houses and one of her two cars to enable them settle down in Springfield properly.

So, Imagine her surprise when only three months in the town, Joe had disappeared leaving only a note telling her he couldn't go on anymore that he just realized he wasn't cut out for marriage and he had taken her car and blocked her from the joint account she had stupidly put all her money into.

Aleena was completely shattered, she had been with Joe all through high school and college, she was so sure they were meant to be . She spent months in the cottage she had rented for them on their arrival and survived only on her tears, reading of old messages and coffee and would have continued like that if a letter from her landlord threatening to eject her had not come through to her.

She decided then she needed a job and had to leave her misery but she didn't know anyone, not even Joe's parents , He had always postponed their meeting. That should have been a red flag to her but anyway, she needed to forget him.

The next day, she woke up early and got prepared to get a job and took her credentials along with the expectation that getting a job shouldn't be so hard in the little town.

That's what she had thought, she walked all around the town for hours all to no avail. The offices she got to didn't need workers, those who needed thought she was too expensive for them and some didn't even bother looking at her credentials before concluding she wasn't fit.

She took a break from her job hunting and went to a diner she had seen on her way to the last office she went. She was about opening the door when someone pushed her inside, she gasped for breath and was about to give the person a piece of her mind when she saw the person running in the direction of the kitchen.

She huffed and dusted Imaginary dust and took a sit at a booth near the window and leaned her head slightly dozing and she would have slept if not for the thud of footsteps beside her and she jolted awake and turned to see the flushed face of a young waiter.

He silently apologized and she nodded a bit before ordering for their lunch special and the man smiled and left. She looked out the window and saw nobody was actually busy, people didn't look very happy neither did they look sad.

And the hi's and Hello's meant that Everybody did know Everybody in the place. She remembered going to her father's place only once as a child and she wasn't half as happy as these people looked.

She sighed and as if on a cue,the waiter brought her food and smiled again before leaving. She bit into her juicy burger and it seemed to remind her that that was the first thing she had eaten in months. she silently munched and decided within her that this diner would be her second home.

Finishing her last bite, she cleaned her mouth and called for her bill and her smiling waiter came with it. she was about taking the money out of her purse when she looked at the bill better, This wasn't her bill, She had ordered only a burger but this person had ordered for two burgers and a coke.

She explained to the waiter who once again flushed in embarrassment and on turning on his heels stepped on his own toes and spilled the water on the table on her.

He apologized again and even tried patting the water off her but she pried off his hands and excused herself and she silently chuckled when she caught him slapping himself in the face before making her way to the toilet he directed her to.

On returning, she saw the waiter being reprimanded by a woman who she interpreted to be his boss and she rushed there. She spoke to the woman nicely and explained it was only an accident.

The woman thanked her and walked away, the waiter rubbed the back of his head nervously and this time she actually laughed out loud and she then paid her actual bill and left a tip before leaving.

She checked two stores and they didn't need anybody not even a cleaner. She decided it was enough job hunting for the day and she strolled home while listening to music on her iPod.

She was about entering her cottage when felt eyes boring into her, she unconsciously turned to her right and true to her instincts, she saw a pair of eyes staring at her from her neighbor's house, she raised her brows and almost immediately, the curtains was dropped.

She shuddered at the thought of a stalker but waved it off with the fact that nothing bad could happen in the town. She unlocked her door and stepped into her cottage and breathed in the hominess of it.

She opened her cupboard and brought out a glass , she was about taking juice from the freezer when she heard a car drive into her neighbor's compound, she hasn't even met the occupants , maybe she'd go greet them in the evening.

She poured her juice and swirled it in the glass while remembering her life before Springfield. She was a stuck up ,busy lady. She never missed classes and always had her nose buried in her notes and her architectural designs.

Not in a thousand years had she imagined herself in a small cottage in a small town with a broken engagement and a dissolved family , Jobless.

She sighed and tossed her glass in the sink and was about going for a quick bath when she heard a knock at her door. She pinched her forehead as she was sure nobody knew her here or maybe Joe had come back.

She straightened up at the second possiblity and rushed to open the door and on seeing the person, she left her mouth ajar.
