Neon Lights

The City. Always So Bright, Even Within The Darkened Times Of Days. All Because Of These Neon Lights.

It Would Be A Pattern, A Symbol, A Colour, It's Always The Same. Many Didn't Have A Meaning, But Many That Did, Were Ignored For It's Glowing Beauty.
These Days, If You Stood Out, You Would Mysteriously Disappear.  As If You Were Your Own Light Being Absorbed By The Morbid Darkness Of The People. Well, Not Me By A Long Miracle.
You'd Get Called A Bad Name, Get A Bad Look, Or Even Be Known By A Bad Rumor. But As If That Ever Effected Me, It's Not A First Time Thing. You'll Get Used To It And This Is Coming From Experience.

One Night, As The Glistening Rain Pounded Against The Brick & Metal Buildings Making Plinking Sounds Of A Windchime, I Received What Looked To Be The Last Letter I Ever Got.

''Dear -----,

We Would Like To Invite You To An Important Event.
We've Heard MANY Good Things About You That Would Suit The Quality For This Time Of Year.

You May Be Wondering Who I, Or So I Say, We, Are.
We'll Meet Very Soon, Maybe Sooner Than You Expect.
But, For Now, You May Call Me...''

The Name Was Teared Out, Leaving A Hole Through The Thin Piece Of Paper.
I Continued To Read.

''Of Course, To Get To This Exquisite Place,
You Must Follow The Neon Lights. Mainly The Ones That Go Down Through The Park.

We Can't Wait To See You.''

Wait...There Was Lights In The Park Too?! How Many Of These Things Have Manifested The Area.
Humanity These Days.
Seriously Though, As If I'd Listen To This Suspicious Letter. How Dumb Do They Think I Am!?
But Really, I Had Nothing To Lose. I've Lost Everything, Including My Reputation. What Good Did They Hear?

I Packed My Things. Walking Through The Soaked Streets To The Destination. I Wasn't Dumb To Think What Might Happen. I Knew, I Don't Care. But Luckily, The Last Important Thing I Had, Was My Fathers Baseball Bat He Left Me. What An Old Fool To Think I'd Try And Be Someone Like Him.

The Park. As Dull As My Life Right Now.
Nobody Had Bothered To Come Here, Not After All These High Tech Objects That Are Ever So Useful These Days.
The Lights Had Ended Off Near The Bins.
I Leaned Against The Metal Trash Boxes. I Had All The Time In The World To Wait.

- C R A C K -

I Felt The Ripple Of Shock Go Right Through My Head & Coursed Into My Body.
Four Figures, Wearing Navy Coloured Hoods And Dark Blue Jeans Towered Over Me As I Thunked Against The Ground. Their Hoods Were Covered With Neon Paint Splatters & Wore Masks That Covered Their Whole Face. The Only Print On The Masks Were X's Right In The Middle.

I Was So Dumb.
I Was Attracted To The Letter, Attracted To The Lights.
They Were Attracted To Me.

I've Fallen Because Of These Neon Lights.
