The unexpected

The next day I went to class and told Natasha about what had happened, she squealed in excitement and asked me for all the details. I told her it was just a one night thing and not to think about it too much. Just as we were sitting on the lunch table my phone rang and it was my dad calling from London. For context I am originally from London but I was staying alone in Italy to study.

I went to the garden and picked up the phone.

My dad sounded out of breathe as he said "Sorry for disturbing you in class Grace but I am at the hospital your mother had a heart attack and I'm leaving tomorrow for my service, for the next three months. is it possible for you to differ this semester and come take care of your mother?"

I was scared and the first thought was "Is mom okay?"

Dad realised he hadn't told me about it and said "Yes, for now she is fine but they are keeping her under observation."

I sighed and said "Sure, I can do an internship there this semester and then come back for the next semester let me just have a word with the administration and call you back." I walked backed to Natasha and explained the situation, she just hugged me and said "Don't worry, take care and hopefully your mom will be fine soon."

We walked together to the admin block and got permission from the vice chancellor who immediately understood the situation. He would normally ask for a lot of papers but from my face he knew it was serious and hurried up the process for which I was thankful. My college decides and assigns us internships so they already had an internship in mind. My vice chancellor said he would mail me the details by the end of the day tomorrow. I then went home, booked a flight for the next morning and started packing. I texted my dad that I would be coming home by tomorrow afternoon.

While packing my last few things I saw an orange Richard Mille watch. I was afraid because that is too expensive for me. Then I remembered it was Lando's sometime in the middle of all that passionate kissing I had taken it off and he must have forgotten it. I didn't know what to do with it but something in me said keep it as a memory so I slipped it in the back of my bag.

I didn't have the time to change my sheets and I was too tired to bother so I just went to sleep. When I woke up, I realised I felt safer in my bed than usual, I could still smell Lando's perfume through my sheets and it made me feel secure and at home. I wondered why I was feeling this way because it was just a hookup but I concluded I was overthinking and left for London.

Once I landed I went straight to the hospital to see my mother. My dad was waiting outside as she was sleeping in her room, he quickly embraced me and apologised for calling me back. "It's okay, I'll get an opportunity to work here and gain experience and one thing you always taught me is family first." My dad smiled and left for the airport.

I was just reading the news when I saw a notification, it was the email about my internship details. I hoped it was a good one in an environment where I could learn. I opened the mail and was a little surprised to see that I was interning with the legal team at McLaren Information Technology. I knew the second I told Natasha she would be so jealous but also happy for me. Before I could finish reading the mail my mom woke up so I went and greeted her and made sure she didn't need anything.

I kind of just had to be around incase but she already had a nurse taking care of her 24/7 so she told me to go home and rest because I had to go for my first day of internship tomorrow. So I did just that. I went home unpacked and went to bed.

The next morning I woke up at 7:00am and got dressed. I always choose to dress well on my first day because first impressions were important. I wore a simple white dress with a blazer and a formal bag and left to catch the tube. By 8:15am I was at the office and I was pleased because my reporting time was 8:30am.

I knew I had to go to the first floor but I figured I'll just ask someone on the way. Just as I got off the lift I saw someone looking down at his phone. So I decided to ask for directions.

"Um.. excuse me could you please tell me where the legal department is?" I asked and just then he looked up.

It was him.

It was Lando.

I looked behind him and saw a huge poster of him and then it hit me. Lando from the club is LANDO NORRIS.

I never knew how he looked I had just heard his name from my friends but I felt so dumb for not putting it together.

He looked just as surprised as me and simply said "I can take you if you want." I nodded and we walked in awkward silence. Walking in silence was slowly becoming our thing so I tried breaking the awkwardness.

"I didn't know who you were, but I promise I won't say anything." I said. He just looked at me and gave the slightest smiled and said "I know, I don't know why but I trust you." Our eyes met for a moment and I gave him a reassuring look.

He continued by asking "what are you doing here though?"

"I'm here for a legal internship, what about you." I replied and then realised that's such a dumb question. I quickly corrected myself and said "Never mind that's a dumb question" and I pointed to a picture of him which made us both laugh. I expected more awkwardness but it just felt comfortable like I'd known him from before.

Just as we reached the end of the corridor he pointed at a room and said that's the legal department, I nodded and started walking that way. He didn't know what to say because he was clearly shy but he just pulled me towards him held me around the waist and said "I'm going to come see you in a while." He just walked away then.

Normally I would be upset or concerned but I was smiling because I wanted him to come back. I didn't know what to think but I just decided to deal with it later and walked into the legal room.
