She was right. They have been playing for so long now. No one wants to give up. They are neck and neck to each other. People are starting to complain because they've been at it for too long.
"Seokkyung, let's go. People are complaining." Suryeon whispered to her daughter when they had finished another round.
"One last time mom, I'm sure I'll win this time." Seokkyung said, her face was full of determination.
Suryeon sighed, defeated. She turn to the redhead this time. The younger woman who was busy arranging the balls.
"Yoonhee.."
"Hmm?" She hummed without looking.
"Can you please let her beat you?" The redhead finally faced the older woman.
"But-" The shorter woman was about to protest when the brunette crossed her arms at her. Suryeon knows Yoonhee can't say no to her.
"Fine." The redhead sighed.
The game started, and just like the other rounds, Seokkyung and Yoonhee's scores were close to each other. Suryeon monitored the time, only a minute left before the game is over. The two continue to shoot balls nonstop.
For a moment the brunette felt irritated that the shorter woman seem to have forgotten their conversation earlier but when only a second was left, the redhead stopped and her daughter won by two points.
"Mom, I won!" Seokkyung shouted as she ran to her mother.
The younger girl cannot contain her joy and hugged her mother tightly. Suryeon chuckled at her antics. She saw the redhead walking towards them. She smiled warmly at the mother and daughter. The brunette mouthed thank you to her and she nodded in response.
Seokkyung was walking ahead of the two women towards the car. Exhaustion was finally catching up to her.
"Thank you, Yoonhee."
"Not a problem." The redhead sneakily slide her hands in hers.
"Their dad didn't let them play much when they were kids. So whenever Seokkyung acts silly, I just let her be. It was my fault for neglecting them after all."
The atmosphere suddenly became heavy. Yoonhee watched as the brunette's daughter skipped towards the car.
"You're doing your best now, and that's what matters." The redhead gave their hands a squeeze.
After a long drive, they finally dropped Yoonhee off to her apartment building.
"Take care." Suryeon wanted to say more. She wanted to kiss her good bye as well but her daughter was just beside her.
"Thank you, Ms. Oh! You were really cool." Seokkyung said, giving her a thumbs up.
"I'll beat you next time." The redhead joked.
"You'll never." Seokkyung folded her arms and gave her a proud smile.
The brunette rolled her eyes and chuckled at the two. The mother and daughter bid Yoonhee goodbye. She watched as their car disappear into a distance.
She went up to her unit, humming peacefully to herself. She had a great day with the brunette and her daughter. She feel at ease that Seokkyung doesn't seem to harbor hard feelings for her anymore.
When she entered their unit, she saw Rona walking back and forth with her phone in her hand. Her daughter looked so distraught.
"Rona, are you okay?"
Rona turn around and widened her eyes. She immediately hid her phone. She avoided her mother's gaze. The redhead frowned and approached her daughter.
"Rona, what is it?" Still, her daughter didn't respond.
Yoonhee became frustrated. She noticed that the younger girl was hiding her phone from her. With a swift move, she was able to snatch her daughter's phone.
"Mom, it's nothing." Rona tried to take her phone back but before she can do it, Yoonhee had already read everything.
It was an article published three years ago, about her being a child murderer. It was trending. The comments were full of people questioning why she only got three years and was able to walk free now.
Yoonhee felt the air leave her lungs as she struggle to breathe. Her memories years ago haunted her. The demeaning looks people gave her as she walked out of the courtroom. The thought of Rona being labeled as a murderer's child again made her heart ache. She felt hot tears stream down her face.
"Mom..."
Rona approached her and hug her tightly. Finally, the redhead broke down in her daughter's arms.
"I'm sorry Rona."
