And she smiled.
"Wow" she mumbled, slowly closing the book and running her fingers across it's gold embedded cover. "Did this all really happen?" She asked curiously, turning her head to the young prince seated by an easel to the far side of the room, he turned his head a bit to face the young girl and shrugged "Dad said it's true, so it must be." He set the paintbrush down and walked towards her, kneeling a bit and inspecting the book "It explains a lot, my dads necklace, Uncle Techno. I hardly doubt this is fiction, I still am confused about this god thing" He rested his chin on his hand "Though having a god grandfather would be amazing wouldn't it?" He smiled a bit, his eyes darting to the young girl, she nodded and pumped her fists in the air "He could grant you all the wishes you want!"
He laughed as a king walked into the room, his brown hair glinting in the sunlight, he wore a simple yellow tunic, and some brown pants, he could pass as common folk if it weren't for the crown glinting on his head and the royal cape that bore the colors of the kingdom trailing behind him. "Dad!" The young prince happily squealed, as he walked towards his fathers loving arms. "Why, hello Fundy" He turned his head to the little village girl who was holding the book by her chest, it clicked to him and he simply gave the young girl a fatherly smile, he turned back to his son and whispered "I have a little gift for you, meet me and your mother in the throne room okay?" The little prince nodded as his father gave him a soft kiss on the head as he slowly closed the rooms door. Fundy quickly set to clean up, she got up and bowed before the prince "It was a pleasure playing with you, but I must go now!" The young prince smiled and nodded, she waved goodbye as she set the book back into its former pedestal and skipped off to the courtyard and into the kingdoms village.
She thought of the story she read, she thought of the lives lost, the friendships that could've been. Tears stung her eyes, she vigorously wiped it and nodded to herself. She needed to share the story.
Slowly from her, to her friends, until every little village child knew of the story of the golden prince, their ebony black winged father, and a god who was simply bored. None of the townsfolk believed the young children, they all thought it was just another myth they made up, but the younglings believed that somewhere out there, a winged angel will come back and reunite with his family.
Techno carefully paced the village square, it was his duty to check the notice board. Wilbur insisted on coming with him this time, but as they walked towards the wooden board, instead of being bombarded with strips of paper full of complaints and requests. It was full of color, red, yellow, green, black, pink, all from drawings of little children who believed in the story that was all forgotten. Techno plucked a little child's rushed drawing of him, his weapon by his side. He smiled. "They drew my likeness pretty well, don't I look dashing?" He handed it to Wilbur, who returned with a chuckle as little children slowly flocked around them.
And that was how it was, almost everyday a new drawing from a little child would appear on the notice board, to which Techno collects and hands to the king. Even once a little girl with black straight hair and simple white clothes made a whole musical play, to tell the story to many. And from Techno's death bed, he was not surrounded by cold, as he always expected from when he was immortal. Instead warmth and love and color, from everyone who loved him "I'm coming Tommy, I'm coming" He whispered, as he slowly closed his eyes, a smile upon his face.
Rest, such a small word for such a big thing.
