He tore through puddles of rain water, heart beating out of his chest, as he attempted to process what he'd just seen. He was soaked, not only in rain, but in cold sweat too. The freezing winter air stung his cheeks as he tried to avoid slipping on the wet concrete. He was disturbingly aware of the footsteps echoing after him, only occasionally interrupted by splashes as his persecutor hit the small pools that lay on the ground. He tried to pick up his pace, pushing himself forward as hard as he could. The wind whistled in his ears, all but making the footsteps inaudible. All along, he resisted the urge to scream.
For a while, he seemed to be gaining ground. The man chasing after him began to sound further and further away, and for the first time during the chase, he felt a small spark of hope, and he pushed on feeding off of it. However, that promising feeling was cut short when he suddenly saw the wet ground hurtling towards him.
It seemed like ages ago when Billie was just walking down the sidewalk after a long night at the recording studio. All he could think about was the song he was working on. It had a tough part he couldn't quite figure out. No matter how hard he tried, it never seemed to sound right.
In fact, he was too busy with his thoughts to see the van parked near the alleyway that he was slowly drawing nearer to. It was only when he looked up that he noticed it and the two black clad figures movingly swiftly with purpose around it. He faltered, and considered crossing to the other side of the road before he was spotted. It was nearly 3 AM, and he, for obvious reasons, wanted to stay the hell away from any creepy suspicious looking vans. He was just about to turn back when he saw a third figure appear with a silhouette sprawled across his arms. A silhouette which looked worryingly similar to that of a person. Now he knew for sure he was not supposed to be there. He knew something wrong was going on. But his curiosity got the better of him, so he moved just out of the streetlight and stuck around, now concealed by the night's shadows.
He watched the first two figures open the back of the van as the third got closer. Suddenly, the silhouette started moving, kicking out and writhing in the arms of the man. Betraying a slight hint of panic, the man quickly and forcefully shoved it into the van. His head snapped around to make sure there were no spectators. Unfortunately for our protagonist, he was in fact a spectator. And he found himself glued to the spot, looking directly into unnatural bright red eyes, sheer panic welling up inside of him. That was how the chase had begun.
And now, it seemed to be coming to an end.
As soon as he hit the pavement, Billie pushed himself up quickly, hoping the man hadn't caught up to him. He slipped again, his palms slick with blood. Shit, come on, he thought. I can still save this. But, to his dismay, he could now hear the footsteps again; this time closer, slowing down, and steadily approaching him. It was too late to run. He tentatively turned to meet his persecutor's gaze again, his green eyes glassy with fear.
A tall, unusually pale man towered over him. He could feel his blood red eyes staring into his soul. His hands shaking, he slowly backed away. He was half convinced it was just some sort of sick prank being played on him. People with red eyes didn't really exist, right? It was just a joke, wasn't it? Just a prank...
A malicious grin spread across the man's face, showcasing his bright teeth. He was steadily advancing, just as Billie was steadily pulling himself further away, trying not to slip again. He paused, looking at the man's mouth. He now saw the countless sharp fangs resembling shark teeth growing out over his normal teeth. Billie let out a small yelp. He suddenly didn't care if this was a prank or not, he wasn't willing to take the chance.
He forcefully threw himself off of the ground and broke into a run again. This time the man wasn't chasing him, he was too busy laughing maniacally. In any other circumstance Billie might've called him an asshole. Or maybe even a moron. But this wasn't exactly any other circumstance.
He never stopped running until he was safely back in the warmth of the studio again.
