The soft sway of the willow tree above entranced me, the breeze lightly stroking my cheek with Tepid effort. The small stream trickling down the riverbed, making hushed sounds that wavered into my ears, the frogs and small crickets following along in a rhythm only nature new of. I had been laying here for goodness knows how long, just intently listening to the forests enthralling lullaby. The grass beneath me cradled my sides, my hands slowly meandered through the forest floor, the grass flicking in-between my fingers. What had my world come to, if this was the most fun I've been able to have in weeks? I guess training wasn't too bad, though it did drain all my energy. I turned my head, eyelids drooped with the heaviness of fatigue, the forests lullaby starting to take a toll on my conciseness. When we had sailed here on a fleet, looking for new and undiscovered lands we were not expecting that we would find a place such as this. When we eventually docked on some tenebrous gloomy cliff of the new land, we not expecting see any other life let alone dragons. Folklore had led us to believe that they had gone extinct, or most cases, people just thought they were non existent. But there they were. "were here to conquer the lands, and if there is something in the way then we conquer that too" my father had told me at the time. We never ended up conquering the dragons in the end though. As my mum says "food always fixes everything". We discovered that dragons were only as dangerous as a house cat when presented food.

When we discovered how docile and easy to tame these creatures were we took advantage of it, adopting dragons and keeping them as either pets, workers or weapons. As a kid I was given a dragon as a gift from my father. She was a little thing... well compared to other baby dragons, she was the size of a small golden retriever. She had silver scales lining her body that glistened whenever the sun met them. She was what we called a fuser dragon. She formed into whatever surface she was touching at will, when she was younger and still learning her powers she often took the wooden form of the flooring of our small cabin. The dragon, being as young as I was at the time quickly became my best friend.

Her scales were flickering as droplets of sunlight danced across her folded wings. Her steady breathing causing her back to slowly rise and fall as she slept next to the willows primeval trunk. "you awake Millar?" I questioned. Indolently I reached out my arm, hooking my finger and stroking her scaled nose. Nonchalantly opening her eyes. She flicked her gaze towards me, her eyes were a deep violet with flecks of silver and blue. The shape of her head reminding me of an Arabian's,Though her nose was slim and had a spike as her silver scales ended with her face. Her blinking was slugged with as much weariness as mine. Looking down at my calloused hand she started to nibble the ends of my fingers making me hurriedly retreat my hand in a fit of laughter. "you hungry?" I laughed, now grabbing at the satchel strapped across my hip. Her head shot up, her gaze snapping to my hand which now held some apples. Millar comically nodding her head suddenly energised at the thought of having some food. "go fetch" I declared as I threw an apple towards the river, Millar's eyes following the apple till it hit the river water. Within a flash, Millar leaped after the apple. Seeing a wall of water coming towards me I quickly regretted my decision, curling up into a ball and using my hands so shield my face from the onslaught of river water coming towards me.

Now drenched not only with water but the dread of how Mrs Shaner was going to kill me over my new garment being soaked with river water. I looked up at Millar who was now sitting in the river nonchalantly chewing at her apple "thanks" I said through gritted teeth. Millar glanced at me for a second before straightening and looking around trying to avoid the mess shed caused. "stupid oversized lizard" I huffed as I tussled with my skirt and struggled to get up.

"alight, its about time we go home Mill".

I started to meander in the direction of my village, my shoulders slumped and my eyelids heavy, I felt the cold of Millar's natural metal form connect to my fingertips as she slid my hand onto her face, looking at me with puppy eyes

"wanna fly?" I asked as if asking a puppy if they wanted to go for a walk. Lowering her body to the ground she wagged her tail making sound from the air. I hopped on, throwing my leg over her back and gently holing onto the base of her wings for support

"alight lets go".With no hesitation Millar shot up off the ground, clearly exited to be flying around again. We flew above to small hills scattered with trees to reveal a small village, it wasn't to far from our hang out spot, which was handy because though I am fit I will avoid walking at any opportunity I got. I saw some of the other villagers were flying as well, sighing I let go of Millar's wings, holding on with my legs I leaned back and lay down. The wind whipped around my ears, then the sound calmed and softened as Millar slowed herself down. The sun was setting and the sky was filled with sweet colours of soft peach and baby blue. The cold air was starting to set in after a warm day and a light shiver made its way up my spine, as I breathed in I could feel the coolness spreading out and making roots through my lungs. I opened my eyes and slowly the depth of reality started to seep in again. I haven't had much of a parental figure throughout my life. My mother died at child birth, and my farther went missing couple of months ago, but even before that he was never really present. When our fleet settled here my farther was the leading night of the protection assemble, so he was always busy with his leading and duties n'stuff. I was somewhat used to this, but I always had some company such as my best friend Luiza who was also my age at the time of the moving fleet, but she later found new acquaintance and moved on without me. Though I find refuge, in the orphanage funny enough. I was older than many of the other children so I became like a caretaker and now I have a job looking after them during mid week between my training. I'm paid a fair sum and enjoy the job, so I was content about where I was. But there was a side of me that still felt like there was an open void now that my father was missing. To top it all off there was a strange and frankly eerily fearsome visitor in our town who has taken a strange interest in me for some reason.

I lifted up my head and slumped back up into a lazy seating position before inhaling as much air I could muster before I realised it in a obnoxiously heavy and loud sigh. "why is my life to great and freaking stupid at the same time?" I whined to Millar who She slightly looked back to see what the fuss was about "why cant I just sit and eat and not move and not worry about trivial things?"

I paused "hmm...maybe my farther going missing, and an old creepy man taking interest in me aren't trivial" I mumbled tilting my head up to look at the overshadowing sky

"but!" I exclaimed loudly throwing my head forward, making Millar jump

"I shouldn't have to worry about that kinda stuff, thats for the adults" I pronounced coming to a conclusion. Millar just raised a scaly eyebrow at me before looking back ahead, clearly not wanting to deal with my childlike ramblings.

"look I know. I'm 19 but still" huffing Millar nodded her head slightly, almost like she was agreeing before going back to whatever dragons do. "you know Millar" I yawned now slowly stretching out frontwards holding onto her neck

"you understand me so well" I remarked jokingly. She huffed in response before dipping down towards the Village towards our house. I sat back up preparing for landing and once we did I slumped forward, face planting into Mills back "carry me into the house would you?" I mumbled. I heard an exasperated whine come from Millar as she swung her head and stared at me, squinting her eyes at me defiantly, "please?" I asked like a kid asking for cake. She then huffed, causing a large cloud of smoke and embers come from her nose. She waddled towards the door nudging it open before slamming it closed behind her with her tail, she trudged through the house getting to our room when she then tilted her back to the side making me slide of onto the floor. I groaned in pain and looked up too see Millar already in bead, my arms wobbling a little as I heaved myself up and slumped onto the bead myself, feeling my tiredness tug at my eyelids I let myself asleep.
