"Avery come down here!" My mom called. I sighed, what is it now. "Yeah what's up?" I came rushing downstairs. "Your going to have to go to work with Simon after school tomorrow." She told me. I groaned, "do I have too?!" "Avery stop complaining." She sighed stressfully. I stormed back up into my room and grumbled.

I decided to just sleep it off. I climbed into my bed and shut my eyes. I woke up in the middle of the night to rustling and banging outside. I got up and put on my slippers and robe. I quietly walked downstairs and opened the front door. Nobody.

Nobody was there. I was so confused and assumed it was my imagination. Then, I heard it again. I walked outside and around my house, and then I saw it.

              The skull mask killer.

He was trying to get in the house. I ran back inside and locked the door. I locked all the windows and doors in my home. I was on the verge of crying, I knew I couldn't though, he would probably here me.

I slumped down on the floor, in shock. Was the skull mask killer trying to get me? Or was it a prankster? I tried to calm myself down, "remember Avery, the skull mask killer is dead. It's obviously a prankster." I told myself. Right?

I tried to call my friend, Deena. "Please pick up, please pick up." I mumbled. She didn't. "Oh come on!" I groaned. After a few minutes, the banging at the door stopped. I looked out the window, he was gone. I was relived. I couldn't take anymore of that knocking, or else I would have gone crazy.

I ran back upstairs quietly into my room. I closed the windows in my room and shut the door. I hopped into bed and closed my eyes and let out a big sigh. I slowly drifted off to sleep.

The Next Day

I woke up to my mom screaming, "Avery! Get your ass down here! Your going to miss school!" I opened my eyes. Shit! "What time is it?!" I groaned, struggling to find my clock. "Oh god!" I looked at the time and sprinted downstairs. "Mom why didn't you wake me up!" I said shoving cereal in my mouth.

"I tried too! You said five more minutes." She sighed. I grabbed my backpack and ran outside. "Avery!" She shouted. "Ugh, what now?!" I scrambled back into the house. "Your pants." I looked down and realized I had my pajama pants on. "Shit!" I dashed upstairs.

"What's taking her so long?" Simon complained. "She's a mess." My mom sighed. I raced back downstairs with jeans on. I grabbed my backpack. "Finally!" Simon mumbled. The bus pulled up and me and Simon bolted onto it. I slumped down and sighed, out of breath. Simon sat next to me. "Hey-uhm, Simon? Can I tell you something?" I asked.

"Hm?" He answered. "Well, so, last night.." I heard a whisper in my ear, repeating my name. I spaced out, into Simon snapped me back into it. "What about last night?" "Oh, um, never-mind." I laughed and turned back to the window. What if the skull mask killer was coming for us? What if he wasn't really dead? What if- "Avery!" Somebody shouted my name.

I turned around, it was Kate Schmidt, my best friend. "C'mon, we're at school!" She told me. "Oh! Right!" I forgot about school. She helped me out of my seat and we started walking to school. I rolled my eyes when I saw Samantha Fraser and her new boyfriend, Peter walking down the street. She's been ignoring us ever since she started dating Peter. "Stop worrying about Sam, it's not our fault she doesn't wanna be friends with us anymore. We're way better than her anyways." Kate tried to get my attention off of Sam.

But, it wasn't her I was worrying about, it was her new boyfriend. Something was off about him. His personality, his smile, the way he treated Sam. There's no way somebody can be that perfect. Something about him is, different. Kate finally snapped my attention away as we entered the school. "Well, I'll see you after class." Kate waved and walked off to her class. I started walking to class then, "Avery Kalivoda please come to my office immediately." The principal said over the loud speakers.

I sighed and walked into his office. "Hello?" I looked around. The principal ran to his desk. "Miss Kalivoda you are in big trouble." "What did you find out now?" I asked. "We found out you vandalized the back of the school, writing "Sarah Fier is coming." "It's coming to an end" "RUN." And all of that, making the spray paint look like blood as well." He told me.

"What? That wasn't me." I told him. "Mm, then who was it?" He asked. "I don't know!!" I answered. "Detention after school young lady." He slammed his papers down. I stormed out of his office. Everybody was looking at me in the hallways, like I did something wrong. "I thought she was better than that." I heard somebody say. "I can't believe it!" All the rumors and whispering filled the air, walking through the hallway felt like hell.

Finally, I reached my classroom. But still, everyone was staring at me. "Avery, please sit in the front where I can see you." The teacher pointed to a empty desk. I slumped and threw my stuff on the table. After class I walked to my locker and opened it so I could put my stuff away. Kate ran up behind me, "Hey, are you going to the vigil tonight?" "Oh jeez Kate! You scared the shit out of me!" I jumped back. "Sorry, sorry! But that still didn't answer my question." She apologized. "Uhm.." I looked back at the cheerleading outfit in my locker. "Nope! Sorry.." I sighed, slamming my locker door.

"C'mon! I don't wanna go alone." She whined. "Simon's gonna be there with you!" I told her. "I know but, please?" She gave me that look. "Fine." I groaned. "YES!" She jumped up and ran off. I walked into the bathroom to take a break. There was spray paint all over the stalls. "She reaches from beyond the grave to make good men her wicked slaves!" Kate said in a spooky voice from behind, she must have been following me.

"She'll take your blood! She'll take your head, she'll follow you until you're dead!" Simon jumped out from the stall. "Wow so scary." I said, putting my backpack on the sink. "What? The dude was wearing a Halloween skull mask! How is that not fun?!" Simon laughed. "People died out there, you know." Deena walked in the bathroom. "Plus, why are you even in here? This is the girls bathroom." I told him. All of the sudden, the bell rang. "Ah shit, gotta scram. See you guys later." I grabbed my backpack and ran out.

"You're late Kalivoda." The teacher said. "I know, I know." I sat in my chair and threw my backpack on the floor. After school was over I ran into the bathrooms to put on my cheerleading outfit. "C'mon Avery, can you take any longer in there?" Kate kept knocking at the door. "Almost done!" I said, rushing to get it on. Kate burst in, "Here, let me help." She said, zipping up the back of my outfit. "Thanks." I laughed. "Now come on! Let's go to the vigil!" She said, rushing off.
