Invisible Strings (VERY SLOW UPDATES)

Chapter Eight

"Rona, let us know if she's picking on you again." Seokhoon said, determined to protect their friend.

"Tsk. I'm not a weakling so stop worrying. I'm more worried because of her dad."

"Mr. Ha? Why?" Seokkyung asked curiously.

"He's being overly kind to us. I think he likes my mom."

Suryeon held the door knob tightly, she closed the door quietly. She frowned, questions began to form in her head. Why didn't Yoonhee tell her about this? Does Yoonchul really like Yoonhee? Does Yoonhee like him back? Is she having feelings for her first love again? The brunette tried to shake the thoughts out of her head. 

She sat on the bed, still thinking about what she had overheard earlier. What is wrong with her? How does one piece of information seems to send her into a frenzy? Yoonhee loves her, the younger woman has proved it time and time again. But is her love for her greater than her desire for a complete family? 

The redhead often talked about how she grew up without parents and not wanting the same thing happening to Rona. When her husband died, no matter how angry she is with him, it upsets her that her daughter lost one of her parents.

She had watched Yoonchul and Yoonhee act as a family with Rona from afar when she was still pretending as Na Aegyo. She witbessed how happy the redhead was. She took a deep breath as she reached out for her phone and dialed the redhead's number.

"Hello?" Yoonhee spoke first but they were no response, she frowned. She looked at the clock, it's late. 

"Hello?" She repeated, she's getting worried by Suryeon's unresponsiveness.

"Hi." The brunette finally spoke. The younger woman sighed.

"Why did you call? Are you okay?" 

"I'm fine... How's your day?" 

"Are you sure you're okay? Why do you sound so upset?" Silence followed. The redhead bit her lip, she's getting worried now. Suryeon is acting weird.

"How are you, I heard you have a new neighbor." The older woman asked, hoping Yoonhee would just tell her the truth. 

The redhead bit her lip, Suryeon must've known because of Rona. Her asking about it means she doesn't know who the neighbor was. She doesn't know why, but she feels uncomfortable telling the brunette about Yoonchul. Maybe because she'll also eventually tell her about him being Rona's dad and she isn't ready for that yet.

"Oh, that. She's nice, she helps around a lot." A lie. Suryeon felt a pang of pain in her chest.

Suryeon sighed for the nth time. There's no point, Yoonhee was not going to tell her now. Maybe she needs more time. She thought, trying to convince herself. The two finally bid each other good bye. Suryeon doesn't want to admit it, but she feels the way she felt the night she saw Yoonhee with Dantae, the feeling of betrayal and hurt.

"Is it that hard to tell me that your first love is now your neighbor?" Suryeon asked, bitterly. Yoonhee looked down, she felt guilty. 

"I thought you're never going to lie to me again." The brunette finally looked at her, tears forming in her eyes.

Again. That's the keyword. The redhead thought the older woman was just being overly jealous but it wasn't the case. She must've been reminded of the time where she had betrayed her. She bit her lip as she looked up and finally saw how the brunette was in tears. She stood up and approach her carefully.

"I'm sorry." The redhead said, touching her right arm. She was relieved when Suryeon didn't swat her hands away. The older woman was still looking away from her.

"I'm really sorry. For then, and now." The brunette looked at her finally, she saw the guilt in her eyes and can't help but be sad for her. She didn't want her to feel guilty. Sometimes she wish she can have a switch so she can turn off certain emotions. She wiped away her tears. 

"Why can't you tell me? There must be a reason, right?"

Yoonhee sighed, there's no use of delaying it now. Suryeon deserves to know, especially now that Yoonchul is trying to act like a father to Rona. She looked at her straight in the eyes as she reveals the truth to her.

"Yoonchul is Rona's dad." Suryeon's mouth went agape. She went silent as she try to process what the redhead just said. Her silence must've went too long because she felt Yoonhee squeeze her arm, as if trying to get her to respond to her. She cleared her throat.

"And you were keeping this from me because?" Yoonhee sighed.

"I was afraid of how you'll react. And I don't want to face the truth. After what he did, I impulsively told him the truth because I wanted him to feel guilty, I shouldn't have done that. I don't want him to act as Rona's dad now."

"But that's his and Rona's right, don't you think?" The redhead was shocked by her respond. 

"Does Rona know? What will you do if she wants to get to know her dad?" Suryeon bombarded her with questions.

"She still doesn't know, and I don't know what I'll do if she wants to get to know him." 

"Why do I feel like you're on his side?" She said, raising an eyebrow. Suryeon sighed.

"I just don't want you to complicate your relationship with your daughter." Yoonhee looked at her, the brunette was so sincere. She can't believe that after hurting her feelings, she's still worried about her.

The redhead pulled her in for a hug. She had thought that the older woman would be angry with her, but instead she cared for her.

The brunette understood the meaning of the hug. I'm sorry, and thank you for caring. She hugged her back and pat her on the head.

"I'll go to the launch party. I'll go wherever you need me to. I'll always be by your side, even when I'm not physically there." the younger woman rambled, not knowing what kind of reassurance to say to the brunette.

Suryeon just chuckled and hug the redhead tightly.

 

A:N: As you might've noticed by now, I'm a slow writer hehe. My sem just started so updates are going to be
S L O W haha. I wanted to write a lot of things for surhee, this is just one of them. I thought I'm going to be able to finish this one before my sem starts but :/

Anyways, I'm going to publish my other surhee fics too, in hopes of committing myself to finishing them, updates are going to be slow too. I hope you enjoy the chapter! The conflict is coming hehe.
