Her winning streak was left unbroken once again as she and her team were victorious at the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition. This was the final time that she competed in an official Moot competition as she went on to begin her Ph.D. in International Human Rights the moment that she graduated from Harvard Law School.
The pair easily slipped into the interview, Josh asked multiple questions regarding her previous experience, her time in the U.N. and her internships within various governmental bodies. Finding common ground as they both went to Harvard for their undergraduate degree.
Josh found out that Madison had spent the almost all of her adult life of the country once she finished up with her first Ph.D. only coming back a few times, particularly around the holidays, if at all that year.
Her stances on main politics issues for the Democratic Party were no issue, despite the fact that she would be considered as more radical than almost all of her so-to-be colleagues.
The only professional issue that Josh kept getting stuck on was her lack of relationships with anyone dotted throughout the many governmental branches, since she wasn't heavily involved any political campaign, on a national or state level, in years and those that she had been involved in were the President's campaigns, and only for a few weeks at most, before she ran away.
Madison relaxed a lot more over the course of the interview with Josh, feeling at ease with the man. However this relaxed nature was only due to them both silently agreeing to not acknowledged the many elephants in the room.
Despite her extensive and impressive résumé, he was clearly still hesitant to offer her the job, which was something Madison was aware of.
"How do you know the President?" Josh asked one of the few non typical interview questions that he had.
"He's my Godfather. The First Lady is my Godmother. I've known them both since I was like three hours old." Madison recounted her family history, "In fact, my mother introduced them to each other."
He mulled over this information for a second as he picked the next question to ask her, more than likely already having rehearsed them earlier.
"Why'd you leave the U.N.? You have a Ph.D. in Human Rights, so your position on the Commission should have been a perfect fit for you."
Madison ignored the urge to correct him on what her two Ph.D.'s were about.
Even though they'd discussed her time at the U.N. and Josh was right, it was the perfect place for her, Madison deliberately tried to avoid her abrupt exit from not only the U.N. but from Switzerland as well, as once she left her job, it only took her a week to touch down in New York City.
Madison swallowed the small lump that had started to form in the back of her throat, ever so slightly shifting in the chair.
"For personal reason, my partner and I spilt up and as a result, I couldn't stay in Geneva any longer. But if you're asking why I just didn't apply for the headquarters in New York?" She paused for a second to finalise collecting her thoughts, "I thought about it, but my skills and abilities are better suited for here than there."
"Have you ever tried to overthrow the Government?" Josh asked, appearing not to dwell on her previous answer.
"Not the American Government. But I've been arrested, but never charged, for protesting from like the age of eleven to..." she paused again to think back, "probably ... when did I lose my diplomatic passport ..." she thought out loud, "I'm going to say twenty, but that file on my life has already told you the answer."
