C.3: what's a lifetime of achievement

"So who did set on fire this time?" Teresa asked.

"No one!" Madison replied, "I just slept with a senior member of staff." she admitted quietly. Not ashamed but slightly embarrassed by this fact.

"Last night? In my bed? My room?" Peter almost yelled as Madison stated this. "Are they hiding up in my room?"

"Okay no need to yell," Madison snapped, "Firstly, no! Secondly, it was like two weeks ago. And most importantly, no one is having sex in your bed, Marcie dumped your ass."

Teresa stopped listening as the siblings fell further into childish bickering. Just occasionally lifting her head from her plate.

Despite the childish bickering that her and Peter had fallen into she still risked it and asked for the keys to Peter's car, which he semi reluctantly handed over. She thanked him before grabbing her things and leaving the home to Teresa and Peter calling out "Good luck."

*~*~*~*

Madison's leg continued to move borderline uncontrollably as she shifted uncomfortably. She stayed seated at the desk as the interviewer left the small office, they had excused themselves to go find out something, not elaborating at all, on their departure.

Her finger's tapped against the mahogany desk, as she tried to calm herself down, she didn't like not being in the know, especially when it was about her. This was her second interview at the White House, having been stuck in this exact same office just a few days ago for the first one.

But this was the first interview post the meeting of the President's staff yesterday. Which could have ruined her chances completely, if they didn't like her.

This second interview was a lot longer, a sliver tray had been placed in the centre of side table just off to the side of the desk. A full jug of water, with some glasses and small sweet snacks had been left abandoned by both Madison and the person interviewing her, with the former being too nervous to eat anything. She almost successfully managed to skip breakfast, but Constance practically forced her daughter to take at least one bite and drink something that wasn't alcoholic, when Constance surprised her eldest daughter for breakfast just after she left Peter's house earlier that morning.

She looked around the office, having been unable to take in the decorations in the other day. Nothing too personal stood out to Madison, she was unable to tell much about them from the select photographs that hung on the walls. She didn't want to risk getting up and looking around the office even further.

The door to the office swung open, forcing Madison to stop everything that she was doing, and look over at the door.

"Come with me," the interviewer almost demanded.

Madison nodded, as she tried to lift her bag from her feet while standing up. This ended up with Madison falling slightly back into her chair, as embarrassment washed over her. The interview just shook their head, not event trying to hide their discontent with Madison taking up more time than they'd scheduled.

Madison bit her tongue to fight against the urge to say something as they checked their watch for the fifth time since their time together had begun. She grabbed her black trench coat from the standing coat rank, tossing it over her arm that held her bag on her shoulder as she trailed behind the interviewer, who practically ignored every question that Madison had about what was going on.

Once Madison realised that none of her questions would be answered by them, she stopped asking them, letting herself be lead through the West Wing. Not really knowing where it was she was going, she looked around the halls, trying to see if she recognised anyone from the other night.
