I woke up to screaming. Her screaming.

Rachel Roth, my foster sister with special abilities, screaming.

As I crept out of my bed to peep my head out of my bedroom door to look down the hall to Rachel's room I heard a small bit of my mother by chance and adoptive sisters conversation.

It was something about a dream and a boy. All I know was that she wanted Melissa to lock the door.

Whenever Melissa locked the door, all hell would break loose on the other side. Screaming, crying, shrieking, clawing at the door, anything and everything that could shake someone's core happened in that room.

Trying to go back to sleep was difficult but I realized that it was what was best considering I had a shift at my shitty job. I was trying to save up enough money to do what my dad always wanted to do, open up a restaurant.

The thing is, I've been cutting school to work there. Rachel's mom is usually out of the house before the school bus comes so I stay behind and get ready for my shift.

Rachel knows I skip but she doesn't know the reason. She thinks I'm saving up so I can go to college but with my attendance, I'm not even gonna make it through highschool.

------------------------

"Y/N, RACHEL, YOU GUYS HAVE TO GET UP I'M LATE FOR WORK AND YOUR GOING TO MISS THE BUS" I heard Melissa call out.

I got up and walked down the hallway to unlock Rachel's door for her, but then I realized that one of the dozen crosses on it had fallen off somewhere in the night.

I picked up the cross just as Rachel opened the door and spoke.

"Was last night that bad?" Rachel says before I can say anything.

I put the cross back on the door and looked at the inside to see tons of scratches covering the bottom of it.

"Damn. What did that door do to you?" I ask being sarcastic.

Rachel let's out a little giggle and I do as well once I've realized that I haven't hurt her feelings.

Rachel gets ready first and then I go in after her. I put on my work uniform and cover it up with a jacket.

Lucky for me, the jacket makes my uniform look like everyday wear and since the don't have a shoe policy, Melissa didn't suspect anything.

This was going to be risky considering that she's usually out of the house by the time Rachel leaves for school. I almost considered calling in sick and going to school, but my boss can hear a lie from a mile away.

When I went down for breakfast I saw Melissa on the floor and Rachel leaving out the door to catch the bus.

I ran over to Melissa to see if she was alright. She told me to go catch the bus but I wanted to make sure she was alright. Plus I could lie and say I was walking to school and then just go to work. Perfect plan.

--------------------

"YOUNG LADY ARE YOU EVEN TAKING DOWN MY ORDER?" The lady screamed in my face.

"Yes ma'am, you ordered a diet coke with no ice yet still ice cold, two flapjacks fresh off the stove but not too hot, three low-fat sausages, and a root beer float with an inch more root beer than ice cream."

"WELL HURRY UP! I DON'T HAVE ALL DAY!"

Oh boy...

----------------------

I ran home as fast as I could once I realized I had missed the bus home. I cut through a few back yards and cut through the park to make it back to the house at the same time of the school bus.

When I finally made it back to the house I was huntched over holding my sides. I made it just a few minutes before the bus did.

"What did you do to get home Y/N/N?" Rachel said with a little giggle after it.

"Don't ask!"

Rachel unlocked the house door and walked in first. I decided to grab the mail. As I walked into the house I heard a voice that didn't sound familiar. I peeped my head around the corner and saw a man holding a gun to Melissa head.

"Tell her!" The man shouted.

"I'm not your mother Rachel, but I do love-" Melissa said before she was shot in the back of her head.

The next thing I know, the man is on the floor unconscious.

Rachel was on the floor crying and I was in complete shock. I didn't know what to say or do until Rachel spoke up.

"We have to go." Rachel said in tears.

"What?"

"If we go to the cops they're going to ask questions. We can't risk them finding out about me, about us!"

As flawed as her plan sounded, it sort of made sense. We couldn't risk them finding out about what we could do. What She could do.

"Alright. Grab some cash and some clothes and don't bring more than one bag it'll seem like we planned for this to happen."

"How do you know so much about this stuff?"

"I was in the foster system remember? I've run away more times than I can count!" I say trying to distract myself from the dead Bodies in the kitchen.

Once I had my bag packed and she had hers packed we caught the city bus to the bus station.

--------------------

Rachel decided on going to Detroit. For whatever reason I don't know but I do know that there was going to be one hell of a bus ride.

---

"So why Detroit?" I question as we board the bus.

"I don't really know. All I know is that I feel drawn there." Was all Rachel said.

Silence

That was all that was there. I wanted to break it and ask if Rachel was okay but I knew that the answer would be no.

Who would be okay after watching the person they thought was there mom be murdered right Infront of them?

As I tried to process all that had gone down I heard sniffles coming from Rachel.

I didn't ask her what she needed, I just held her and rocked her to sleep. I used one of my many gifts to help Rachel's powers sleep with her, but it took a lot out of me.

I just hoped that we would be safe in Detroit, an prayed that guy didn't come looking for us.

Or maybe it was just her...
