Part 13

I didn't touch my food.

Tumingin lang ako sa kanya.

"Oh lalamig na yung ramen mo. Kumain kana." she said carefully.

"I'm not hungry" I said through gritted teeth.

"Ha? Eh favorite mo yan diba? Kahit di ka gutom, basta't ramen di mo pinapalampas hehe" she tried to crack a joke.

"Look, can we just cut the crap? Why are you really here?"

"Deanna..." kumunot yung noo nya like she's trying to find the words to say.

She reached across the table and tried to hold my hand but I quickly pulled away.

"Deanna what?!" medyo napalakas kong sabi.

Tumingin sya sakin. Her eyes pleading with me. Tears brimming in her eyes.

"NO! DON'T YOU DARE CRY!" pagbabanta ko sa kanya.

I didn't want to yell at her. This is just my defense mechanism.

In truth, I just don't want to see her cry.

"Deanna...I'm sorry" she said it almost like a whisper and yumuko na sya.

"Do you have any idea how hard it is? Gustong gusto kitang mayakap nun kasi di ko na alam ang gagawin ko when I found out about Dad. I needed you so bad."

Hindi sya nagsalita kaya nagpatuloy ako.

"Kinailangan kong pulitin yung sarili ko. I couldn't tell my family yung sakit na nararamdaman ko kasi kinailangan namin mag focus kay Dad. ALAM MO BA KUNG GANO KA HIRAP YUNG HA!" naghahalong sigaw at sakit yung boses ko.

"Deanna please..." she kept blinking away her tears.

"Jema, I almost didn't make it. Ate Mads had to drag me to the bus nung sinundo na kami. Muntik na din akong ma kick out sa team because I was performing so poorly sa training palang. I almost gave it all up because of you."

"Deanna, mahal na mahal pa rin kita. I'm sorry kung na ubos lang ako but I'll make it up to you every day of my life if I have to" pagmamakaawa nya.

Oh, how the tables have turned.

"Ang tunay na pagmamahal, hindi basta bastang nauubos. But you're right naman eh, you deserve better kasi wala nga akong future diba?"

"Baby please, you know I didn't mean that" she said and looked at me.

"Yes. Yes you did! You meant every single word. Don't let me drag you down though. Ngayon malaya ka na. Wala ng pabigat sayo." I said spitefully.

"Just let me explain, please"

"Oh, like how you let me explain before?" my voice dripping with sarcasm.

"I know, I should have let you explain. I'm sorry kung nagpadala ako sa galit ko"

"I NEEDED YOU JEMA!" idiniin ko ang bawat salita. "Yes, Ate Mads was there, Ollie was there, I could've called my family and other friends pero ewan ko ba! Ikaw yung hinahanap ng puso ko nun. I needed you and you just discarded me like garbage"

Magsasalita na naman sana sya pero tumunog yung doorbell.

I abruptly stood up and headed for the door. Sumunod naman sya sakin.

It was the rider.

"Magandang tanghali po ma'am, eto na po yung order nyo" bati nito sakin.

Nakita nya si Jema sa likod ko.

"Ah ma'am paki check po yung order. Parang good for one lang kasi yan baka na mali sila. Babalikan ko nalang po yung restaurant" sabi nito.

"Hindi kuya okay na po to. Para sakin lang naman din to" sagot ko sa kanya while turning to look at Jema.

"And she was just about to leave" pagpapatuloy ko pero diniin ko yung titig ko kay Jema.

"Naks naman si ma'am oh! Wag po English hehe baka dumugo ilong ko. Salamat po sa tip ma'am." nang medyo ma layo2 na si kuya, tumingin ulit ako kay Jema.

"Didn't you hear me? I said you can leave. You made your bed, now sleep in it. Have a good life." I coldly told her.

Wala na rin syang nagawa kundi umalis.

I caught a glimpse of her face and I could see she was crying.

It took all the strength I have para hindi sya habulin at bawiin lahat ng mga sinabi ko.

She deserves the best naman talaga and I don't think I'm the best for her right now.

I finally let my tears fall freely but I promised myself that this will be the last time I will ever cry because of her.

Tama na.

Pagod na rin ako.
