"eden, i need you to open up this morning, a new book has been released and i feel it's going to be quite popular!" her mum said to her as she ate her breakfast, checking her notifications; or a lack there of.
she finished her breakfast and jogged up the stairs, pulling out her desired work outfit of the day. seeing as she worked in her parent's book store, the 'uniform' wasn't particularly strict.
as she got to the 'bookworm', cringing once more at the awful name her parents had decided, she unlocked the door and switched on the lights before going to the back to get ready for the day.
ding ding
her phone chimed twice, a message from an ex lighting up the screen
i'll keep trying, i love you ede!
she doesn't bother to reply anymore, his mind games tired her. eden doesn't get in many relationships, they tend to drain her and she is far too gullible to believe any of them have good intentions with her. she also doesn't believe relationships are worth while, you'll end up splitting anyways.
getting lost in her thoughts, she doesn't hear the bell above the door jingle, nor does she notice the tall man walk in.
"excuse me, miss?"
"miss??" he questions trying to see where she's staring so focalized to. waving a hand infront of her face, she snaps out of the trance.
"yes, sorry. can i help you?" she says, taking in the man's features. he looked in his early twenties, had fluffy brown hair and chocolate brown eyes. he was particularly slender, wore a pair of rounded glasses and a sweater over a collared shirt. he looked like a character she would depict for a book.
"yes actually, i was hoping you had 'they both die at the end'? i saw it in a book recommendation and it looked quite interesting"
"by adam silvera, yes? it's a great book. if you'd like to follow me, i could direct you to it" she inquired, trying to figure his emotion in his face; seeming quite difficult as he kept his stone expression while they walked.
the romance novel section in the shop is definitely the biggest area, it being one of her favourites as she designed and decorated it.
she scoured the shelves for a moment, looking for the unforgettable orange cover on the colour organised shelves.
"did you do this yourself?" the man asked, breaking her trance once more
"what?"
"the shelves, did you organise them yourself?"
"yes, i organised this whole section." she replies, not interested in the small talk he is throwing her way.
"it looks pretty" only then did she notice the posh tone in his voice; making him sound like a tory.
she scoffed, probably is one, she thought.
"what's funny?" he queried, an unimpressed look shadowing his face once more.
"you sound like a tory." she laughed
"right." he replied.
she looked over the shelves once more, spotting the book; it was a little too far out of her reach. she wasn't even short, 5'7", none of the shelves were too high for her; but she just couldn't quite grasp the book. she heard a snigger behind her, turning to see the man laughing at her.
"there's the book." she said bluntly, clearly unimpressed with the joke.
"thanks, i never got your name by the way." he raises his eyebrows at her
"it's eden. and you are?" she retorted.
"wilbur, or wil. my friends call me wil"
"it's nice to meet you wil"
