Chapter 6

"Oh my god. I'm so sorry about that. But you should know that Maddie's dad was here half an hour ago and took her already there was probably a miscommunication?"

"Maddie's dad? What are you talking about?" Andy never told her father that Robert came back and now is a part of Maddie's life. Pruitt was confused and by now thought of the worst thing that could happen.

"I don't want to get involved in any family business but your daughter said that Maddie's dad was now back or something like that I couldn't quite understand the situation but he was with her picking Maddie up the other day. I'll give you his phone number?"

"Yes that would be great"

She came back a minute later with a small note and Robert's phone number written on it.

"Thank you" Pruitt said about to leave "I'm sure everything's gonna be okay!" She said and closed the door.

Pruitt entered his car and called the number.

It didn't take Robert too long to pick up.

Robert: "hello?"

Pruitt: "Robert?"

Robert: "yes. Who is this?"

Pruitt: "this is Pruitt Herrera. Listen, I don't know what happened but are you around Maddie?"

Robert: "yes, I'm in Andy's house Maddie is right here" Robert heard the fear in Pruitt's voice and immediately knew something bad had happened.

Pruitt: "I need you to walk away, I don't want her to hear that"

Robert stood up and walked to the kitchen still watching Maddie from there.

Robert: "she can't hear you now sir"

Pruitt: "Andy got into a car accident, she is in surgery now at Grey Sloan. I need you to bring her with you and meet me there"

Robert: "oh my god. I'll... I'll be right there"

He hung up the phone and froze for a moment. 'Andy was in a car accident? What Julie had said probably got her so distracted that it happened?' He pulled himself together and went over to Maddie. He kneeled to the floor and thought about how to explain it all to the innocent little girl in front of him. She is only four she isn't suppose to deal with this kind of stuff.

"Hey baby, stop playing for a second" Maddie put the doll in her hand down and looked at her dad in a questioning look.

"I don't want you to be scared, I promise you that everything is going to alright." He picked the girl up and sat with her on his lap on the couch "what happened?" She was smart enough to know something was wrong and probably with her mother.

"Something happened to mommy. And she is in the hospital right now and she has the best doctors that are doing everything they can to get her better" with one arm he held her and the other was caressing her arm up and down trying to prevent any bad reaction.

"Is mommy hurt?" The girl was about to cry and Robert pulled her closer kissing her forehead. "Yes, but we're gonna go to the hospital now and your grandpa is there and I promise I won't leave you for a second" he kissed her forehead again as she nodded, trying to keep the tears inside and be strong.

He put her in her car seat in his car and drove to the hospital. When he got there he carried Maddie in his arms inside. He walked inside the waiting room and saw Pruitt walking around he haven't seen him in years but he looked the same as Robert remembered.

"Captain Herrera?" He approached the man. "Robert, hey. I don't know what happened yet. All I know is that she is in surgery and a doctor should come talk to us every minute" he looked at the girl in Robert's arms, she has tucked her little head in the crock of Robert's shoulder and her arms were wrapped around his neck, she was trying to keep herself from the world.
