Chapter One: Lana

"Lana Montgomery, please come to the front office." said Mountain Crest's principal, Mrs. Fields over the intercom.

I got out of my seat and headed to the office. I didn't need to wonder why I was being called. I already knew that I was supposed to lead the new girl around school. As school's president, head cheerleader, and yearbook staff leader, I was used to doing things like this. Call me an over achiever but there was another reason that I did this.

You see Mountain Crest High School isn't your ordinary school. Well it seems to be. But there are creatures inside it. Creatures that normal people think aren't real. Like the cheerleading squad. They're all vampires. Not only that but they also kill all the creatures that are about to expose us for what we really are. Head cheerleader also means head hunter.

I walked into the office and was instantly greeted by Mrs. Fields. "Lana, you are such an angel for doing this." she said to me.

I smiled at her sweetly. "Just trying to help out." And also find out if the new kid is a creature that we need to watch out for. I didn't add that since Mrs. Fields was clueless about what the cheerleaders really were.

"Marionette, your guide is here." Mrs. Fields called into her office.

A girl with dark brown curly hair walks out. Her skin is fair, but not vampire pale like mine. She wears a pair of jeans and a blouse with a pair of light purple flats. She looks me over with her purple, blue tinted eyes. As if trying to see me for what I really am.

"Marionette, this is Lana Montgomery. She will be your guide. Lana, this is Marionette Blade. I'll let you show her around." Mrs. Fields then went back to her office.

I held out my hand and put on my best award winning smile. "Hi."

"Hi," she replied. She touched my hand lightly as if she was afraid that it would bite her. Usually I can see what a creature by just looking at them. There was something that didn't register in my mind about Marionette. So I had to use my skills. I can touch someone and instantly know what kind of creature they are and whether or not they are a threat. Or I could read their minds. If I really wanted/needed to. But with her, I still couldn't tell what she was. Probably one of the minor creatures that I didn't have to worry about. Usually I can't pick up on them so she isn't going to be a threat at all.

"I don't bite." I said to her.

I heard a snicker behind me. I turned to see Zane Kingston sitting in an office chair. "Shut up." I said to him. Stupid shifter. "Let me guess, your in here for another fight, Zane?"

With his dark red hair, yellow-green eyes, and tall skinny figure, you'd instantly know that he is trouble. Which he is. The only bad thing about that is that we (my hunting group and I) can't take him out since he isn't posing as a threat. Yet. "Of course, Ms. Perfect. Funny how you seem to know everything." he exaggerated a little too much on everything.

Instead of snapping back, I turned to Marionette. "Ready to go on our tour?" I lead her out of the office. I turned around only to give Zane a 'I'll deal with you later' glare. Then we started our tour.

"So where did you move from?" I asked her.

"Ohio." she said. "There cheerleaders weren't this nice. Are you always like this?" I guess she could tell from my Mountain Crest High cheerleader uniform (game day).

"What nice?" I smiled. "Yeah. So are the rest of the cheerleaders. We aren't really what you call, evil bloodsuckers, like most cheerleaders are." Even though bloodsuckers is a thing that we are.

"Huh." she said. "I'm guessing your head."

I nodded. "And President and yearbook staff head."

"Wow. You've got a lot on your shoulders. And the thing is you seem way too perfect." she said.

Of course I did. That's what vampires are. Perfection. With my blonde hair that I have in thick curls, blue eyes, and perfect figure, I did seem like perfection. Not to mention my perfect grace that I have. "Thanks."

"I'm not really sure if that's a complement, Lana." said a voice from behind us. We turned to see Sophia Larson. Another vampire/cheerleader.

"Well, Soph. Who ever said it was a bad thing?" I asked.

Yeah but it is a way to expose us. Is she a threat? She asked me with her mind.

No. I think she is a minor creature. I haven't gotten any readings off of her. Except I can tell that she is part of our world. I answered.

Sophia nodded. "See you later, new girl. Bye, Lana." She then walked gracefully away.

"Your right about the cheerleaders being nice here." Marionette observed.

"There is a lot for you to learn about this school." I told her. More than you know.

We walked out of the gym. While all the rest of the school was going to go celebrate their win against Gage High School, we were going hunting. We were loaded down in weapons of all sorts. Guns, knives, bow and arrows, you name it, we had it on us.

"Where were the reports at?" Sophia asked me.

"Alley next to the coffee shop. The one next to the old apartment buildings." Allie answered.

"Which is a mile away from where the celebration is going on. That's good for us." I said. "Okay, our teams are Sophia, Allie, and me. Hanna you take Riley and Olivia. Hanna's team will go around back of the alley. We'll go around front. You know what to do if anything goes wrong. Let's move out."

We started heading towards the alley, which was only a couple of blocks away from the gym. As we split into two teams, I took out my silver bullet loaded pistol out. I had it cocked and ready to fire as I headed into the dark alley.

I didn't know what to expect to see. But I knew that I had to be ready to face whatever it was.

The consequences wouldn't be dire if I wasn't prepared. Since I'm technically already dead. Or rather, undead.

I walked further into the alley. My team followed me from behind.

I saw a figure walking in the alley. I knew it wasn't Hanna, Riley, or Olivia.

Especially since whoever it was was carrying a staff. None of us carried staffs.

As I grew closer to the figure I realized that I recognized the curly hair.

Even as she turned to face me I didn't believe who it was.

"Marionette?" I gasped.
