Chapter Twenty | Part Two

Start from the beginning

“ It's good to work hard. But be careful, focus too much on winning and you'll end up like Kageyama.” Onigawara said in a serious expression while looking back at Natsumi who gives him a serious and stern look.

“ Reiji Kageyama, you mean?” says Endou, which sent Kage more off the edge—for some reason.

“ Detective Onigawara has been talking to Mr. Fuyukai,” Natsumi said with a frown. The remaining teens perk up from what had they heard, simultaneously exclaiming “huh„

“ I'm trying to find Kageyama. I've been looking into some incidents from the Inazuma Eleven tragedy forty years ago, right up to the stadium roof collapse in your game with Teikoku. And all of these disasters have one thing in common, and I think Kageyama is that thing. I'm convinced of it.”

“ How did you find these out?” Kidou asked.
“ My thoughts exactly,” Kage added.

Silence meets the crew as Onigawara folds his hands in front of himself with his eyes closed, but was broke by Hibiki speaking and setting a glass of water in from of him.

“ They have the right to know, might as well be honest.”

“ Fair enough,” said Onigawara and drink his water, “ The story started over fifty years ago now.”

“ Huh? Were you even alive then?” exclaimed Endou.

“ Have you ever heard the name Togou Kageyama?”

“ I have,” says Gouenji as Endou turns to him in wonder, “ he was a player, he was on the Japanese National team. Is that who you mean?” he added.

“ Yes, he is Kageyama's father.” Kidou said and all turn to him in surprise, simultaneously saying “what„

“ In his days, Togou Kageyama is a national hero. And everyone thought he's going all the way to the world championship with his team. But then in the end his spot went to a younger player, a player named Daisuke Endou. The shock of losing his place on the team drove him mad and he had a breakdown. He began making mistakes, and every game he played ended up in a loss. Eventually, he disappeared altogether, and when Kageyama's mother got sicked and died, he was left with his childhood friend but things didn't go well as planned. His friend moved out of the country and he was left all alone.”

“ He was furious with the game of soccer which had torn his family apart and yet full of desire to win, to avenge his father.”

“ Winning became everything to him and losing is something to be sneered at. That's what he always used to tell us. ” Kidou said, quoting his former Coach.

“ The results of his philosophy have been painful for a lot of people, including you both, I'm afraid, Gouenji and Itazura,” Onigawara said and the two look at him in confusion.

“ Sorry?/Huh?”

“ I believe he was involved in your sister's accident, Gouenji and Itazura, it seems that what happened to your brother is not as simple as suicide, I'm sorry to say.”

Sudden shock and unexplainable feeling washed over to the two at the words of the detective in front of them.

Kage hangs her head down, clenches her palm into a fist, and grits her teeth together. Slightly shaking and shivering as the memories of her beloved brother comes back to her. All the happy smiles and lovingly call of her names from her brother hunts her all over again.

As for Gouenji, he holds the necklace his sister gave to him and remembers the last time they had a conversation. Clutching the soccer shoe pendant into his fist and grits his teeth as well.

Shocked is written all over the remaining teens and even Coach Hibiki at the revelation of Detective Onigawara.

“ Unforgivable. Whatever else happens, I won't let him taint soccer like this. It's not right.” Endou muttered.

“ And where is Kageyama right now?” ask Kidou, turning to the detective.

“ We still don't know but Fuyukai said extremely strange to me,” he said and explain the interrogation with their former coach.

“ ... so we can conclude that he's got some kind of big plan that involves Kageyama being in the sky.”

“ Let's see project Z.” mumbled Endou and took a seat once more.

“ Zeus... isn't he the god of thunder and sky?” muttered Kage. Frustration is visible all over her form and hints in her voice as well.

Blocking out the fiasco all around her, Kage's mind race with all the memories of his brother but then anger flooded her thoughts towards her former coach.

Kageyama... You'll pay for this! I'm going to defeat you so hard you'll never forget. Make no mistake about that.”
