Prolouge

Halloween 1981

Peter's pov

It was a busy night as Peter Pettigrew made his way to Godric Hollow. Children laughing and dressed in costumes run down the streets as they look for the next door to knock on. He had been invited to the Potter's for some tea and to catch up, but there was a double meaning to this trip. As soon as he knew they were alone he would summon The Dark Lord to come and kill James, Lily, and Harry. He used to feel guilt for things like this but the more he went on missions the more those feelings seemed to fade away. Peter smiled to himself as he got closer and soon got to the door, he knocked.

James' still youthful face appeared as the door opened "Peter! It's so great to see you mate, come in. Lily and Harry will be so glad to see you." Peter put on a fake smile and came inside "Sorry I haven't been over much, been busy with things" he said as he settled down on the couch. Peter heard someone coming down the stairs, he turned to see Lily coming in with tea "I thought it was you I heard coming in Peter, so good to see you again would you like some?" she held out a cup which he took.

He thought to himself of when the right time would come so he could summon Voldemort but was broken from his deep thought by James snapping in front of his face "Alright there Peter? You seem skittish" James said in a teasing manner however something in his voice was off, but Peter waved it off as nerves "I'm quite alright," he said looking away only to catch a glimpse of something, he was about to draw his wand when James grabbed his arm "You should drink another cup of tea, Wormtail, you look tired" Peter grabbed the cup and convinced himself it was probably the cat he saw. 

Once he was done James collected his cup to put in the sink "Where'd Lily go?" James stayed in the doorway to the kitchen but turned his head slightly "She went to go check on Harry, she'll be back down any minute" Peter watched as he went into the kitchen it's now or never he thought as he pulled out his wand. As he was about to touch it to his arm it was forced from his hand and behind him, before he could react he was put into a full body binding curse and shoved back onto the couch.

"It seems we have a spy in our ranks don't we Moony?" The voice of Sirius Black sounded as two figures came out of the darkness revealing the two other Marauders, all Peter could feel was pure fear at the sight of them. Remus, holding Peter's wand, said nothing and only had a glare set on his face. James came back in with Frank Longbottom and a few other order members who surrounded Pettigrew.

James pov

I walked over to Remus and whispered in his ear "Lily, Alice, and the boys are safe. They've just destroyed the last Horcrux. It's time." Remus nodded and walked over to Peter and touching the man's wand to the death eater mark on his arm. I signaled the others to get into position as we heard the sound of someone apparating, it was deathly quiet and you could hear the footsteps walking up the steps. Suddenly the door was blasted open and Voldemort strode in but the group quickly disarmed him and I stepped forward "Avada Kedvra" and with a flash of green light, I watched as He Who Must Not Be Named, was no more.

I turned my sights toward Sirius as he hugged his brother, it was him who showed up on a rainy night to his brother's doorstep and told us of the master plan that was to take place tonight and I am forever grateful that he did. I then focused on Peter, they were going to perform the dementors kiss on him, and strangely enough, I felt nothing.

Third-person pov

News spread fast throughout the wizarding world that The Dark Lord had been vanquished and by midnight there were people dancing in the streets and some who held their loved ones and cried tears of joy. James and Lily Potter held their son as he laughed, Sirius embraced his brother as they finished unpacking Regulus's stuff into a house right down from the Potters', Alice and Frank watched as Neville said his first word. 

Then out in the country, as a warm night breeze blew, Remus opened the door to a small cottage and was greeted by his father "Thank you for watching her. How was she?" he asked as he made his way upstairs "She refused to sleep until you were home" Lyall said grabbing his coat and making his way toward the door. Remus sighed and made his way down the hall. He slowly opened the door to see a toddler sitting in her crib with a grumpy look on her face which instantly brightened when she saw Remus "Da!" she squealed reaching her hands out to him he smiled and picked her up "Hello Sophie, Grandpa just told me you didn't want to go to sleep. Why is that?" She pointed over his shoulder to her small bookshelf "Story" he laughed and picked up a book from the shelf, laying her back down and tucking her in. Halfway through the story, she fell asleep making Remus smile, he kissed her forehead and quietly shut the door before making his way to his own bed.

He sat on the bed and picked up a faded picture of him and a girl in Hogsmeade "Goodnight, my love" he said before putting the picture back on his nightstand and turning out the light.
