Preview: Y/N was always a lonely girl who sadly had trust issues. Luckily for her, today would be a new start.
–————————————————————
Y/N had just got home from school, them having walked home to the door. They tapped on the small handle of the rustic cabin they called home. Soon, they were greeted by their mother who invited them inside with a bright smile.
"So... how was school, dear?" Their mom hummed while scrubbing the residues of dirty dishes from the previous night.
'It was alright, I guess...' Y/N replied with a groan. Suddenly, they felt a light warmth on their shoulder, it being their mother as they looked them in the eyes.
"Y/N, you know you can tell me anything, right?" Mom reminded with a soft tone. Y/N didn't reply, them only sighing as they began to get up. Oh boy, here she goes again... Y/N thought, their mother giving the usual talk,
"—You used to be so happy, what has even gotten into you?—" They only rubbed their temples in annoyance, as they had already heard all of this before.
'I'm going out to get some fresh air,' They huffed, standing up from their chair and walking to the door.
"Okay, just please, don't come back too late!" Their mom reminded. They sighed as they replied with a chuckle as they finished buttoning up their coat and reached for the door handle,
'I won't.'
They ran for the hills that they would usually go to relax at. This was always their favorite spot, as it was comforting, almost. Soon they got in their proper spot against a tree and sighed as they pulled out their sketchbook, beginning to make a few brief doodles.
Hours had passed by, it being very late out as the moonlight shun through the blankets of darkness in the sky.
'Hello!—' Y/N nearly screamed, startled as they dropped their pen and scrambled to pick up their book.
'Oh, sorry, I didn't mean to scare you...' Y/N looked up at the stranger, getting a closer look of them as they replied with,
'It's alright, don't worry about it.' The stranger looked odd to Y/N, them being transparent almost like a ghost with smokey blue eyes. Their eyes were almost beautiful to them the longer they peered in a deep gaze.
'—Let me help you with that,' They were interrupted by the stranger helping pick up their things, organizing them into a neat pile.
'Thank you...' They replied with a mumble as a small pink shade appeared on their cheeks. No-one has ever been this nice to them before; other than their mom.
'Don't mention it— and I couldn't help but notice you were drawing, it's very good!' The stranger said with a smile before they awkwardly scratched their head during the moment of silence between the two.
'I probably should've said this before, but... My name is Ghostbur.' He said with a shy smile, seeming embarrassed. Y/N couldn't help but chuckle as they assured it was alright.
Soon enough, Ghostbur had managed to find a small nook next to you as he watched you doodle. Most of your drawings were realistic, but he still seemed fond of them. 'I wish I had that talent,' He started.
'It's not THAT good, is it?' Y/N asked, only to be met with a reassuring smile from Ghostbur in response.
They couldn't help but smile back; and for once they finally had something. A friend.
Y/N and Ghostbur spent the rest of the night stargazing, and telling each other about each other. Sometimes the both of them would crack a few jokes; and Y/N wasn't going to lie, he was funny. 'Say, why did you come up here by yourself, anyways?' Ghostbur asked.
Y/N shuffled a bit as they were trying to answer this properly without sounding like a total loner. 'I don't really have very many friends...' Y/N replied.
Ghostbur gave Y/N a reassuring look, as if he wanted them to continue.
'I never really had anyone growing up, and I just learned to take care of myself... My mother has always been busy with her job, trying to support the both of us the best she can,' Y/N continued, '—The people I go to school with aren't very fond of me because they think I'm a bit weird. And not to mention on top of that I found out that I'm not normal because of my depression,'
Y/N looked as if they were about to cry as Ghostbur gave them an understanding look.
'I just don't know what to do anymore— would this world really be better off without me?' They started to cry, Ghostbur putting his hand on theirs.
'Hey, hey, it's alright...' He started to kneed light rubs into their back as they continued to sob. Soon enough, they had calmed down a bit as Ghostbur continued to comfort them.
'Even if I just met you, you seem like a great person,' He started, 'A-and that's saying something, considering I don't get along with people well...' Ghostbur gave Y/N a smile.
'And in my opinion, my god, nobody should ever have to feel to a point where they think they shouldn't even exist!' He expressed sympathy in his voice, as if he was trying his best to understand Y/N.

Your POV
—————————————
Ghostbur pulled you into a light hug as he sighed, as if he was trying to find the right words for what he was about to say.
'Y/N, you're a beautiful person that should never deserve to feel hated or shunned in this world. And if anyone tells you otherwise, they're wrong.' His cheeks started to turn a light blue as he looked down at you, giving you some room from the hug.
You smiled, considering no-one had ever said this before about you. You then gave Ghostbur a peck on the cheek, cuddling into his arms. He was almost in shock, turning a bit more blue. 'Thank you, Ghostbur.'
He wrapped his arms tight around you, him smiling as you felt his fingers waft through your hair. 'Don't mention it, Y/N.'
Soon enough, you both fell asleep in each others arms while continuing to stargaze. What a wonderful night.
