It was a breezy night tonight compared to the ones in the past few days, but I was glad because it gave us a chance to cool off from the almost-summer heat.

"So how are thing with you and..." Avery paused. "Sorry I forgot his name, what was it again?"
"Alex, and it's going good I guess," I replied and took a sip of my beer.
"Hey you're not dating my Alex behind my back are you?" She said sarcastically.
"No way, he's Max's brother. He's a big shot over campus, you should've heard of him," I said with a laugh.
"Well good. The name does ring a bell a bit. I think if I put my mind to it I'll remember him." She drank her beer to the last milliliter of the bottle and I just stared at mine that was still half full.
"He's not much and I bet he might be with other girls while he's with me but truthfully I don't care much."
"We all know that you're still in love with Mason."
   "Is it really that obvious?"
"Well don't take this as an insult but ever since you two broke up both of you have been walking around like two depressed people about to jump off a bridge."
"Does Alex talk much about him?" I asked, concerned.
"He just says that they don't meet up much because he's always 'not in the mood'. You two have to hookup before summer vacation. I'm not going to let one of my best friends mourn all summer."
I sighed, not knowing how to reply to her statement. I just stared at the emptiness of the campus from the view of the roof.

"We better get back inside since it's getting late and we have exams tomorrow." She stood up and I did the same. We walked back in the building together and parted once she went to her dorm. I walked through the empty building and into my dorm as well, setting the beer bottle on the nightstand.
The halls were empty and there hadn't been many parties for the past few weeks because everyone was stuck inside studying like crazy. I should be doing the same but once I lift the book up into my arms and read the first sentence I start jumping to conclusions.
Knowing that I won't be able to concentrate on any form of studying now, I simply changed into my nightgown and got comfortable in bed. I connected my phone with the university wifi and did some searching around on the internet. I almost hadn't visited any social networking sights because that's what university life does to you. After about twenty minutes of catching up to any news I'd missed, I finally decided to sleep.
In the morning I dragged myself to my closet to get dressed and dragged myself downstairs barely on time for all of my classes. I had gone somewhere else with my thoughts again and I knew that because Mrs. Harrods was saying my name over and over again until I finally came to.
   "Oh, um sorry."
"Glad of you to join us again Ms. Knight. Now that you are back from your daydreaming session, I'd like to see your essay."
My heart nearly skipped a beat when she mentioned it. "Oh I'm so sorry Mrs. Harrods I've just been so stressed out from all of these exams I had completely forgotten about the essay."
Mrs. Harrods folded her arms across her chest and the entire class turned to stare at me as well. "Well do you know that I can fail you for this? You do know that the entire class has handed their essays in besides you, don't you?"
"Yes I know, I promise I'll get it to you as soon as possible. I didn't realize how fast two weeks passed."
"No, you will bring the essay to my room at 9 am sharp tomorrow morning. I am giving you a second chance only because you are one of my star students."
"Okay thank you so much." I sank into my chair feeling embarrassed while she walked back to her desk.
When class ended I went straight home and knew that the first thing I would do is work on the essay. I ignored everyone else on my way back and after a light lunch I opened my laptop. I opened up a blank document and started brainstorming on what to write. I tried to think outside the box like Mrs. Harrods had said to do but it felt impossible. There weren't many people that inspired me besides my parents. After a few minutes of gathering my thoughts I started writing about my sister: Olivia.
After about ten minutes I had written about a whole page but when I read through it to check for errors, I just wasn't feeling it. Something felt off about the essay so I simply deleted it.
Annoyed, I rested my back against the chair and started thinking harder. Obviously I couldn't get much time alone because just then I heard a knock on my door. I got up and opened it, seeing Alex there but it was surprising because I wasn't expecting him to come over.
"Hey babe," he said with a smile and leaned in to kiss me on the lips. I kissed him back and ran my fingers through his dirty blonde hair.
"Hey, I wasn't expecting you to come over today." I stood a bit to the side to give him room to come inside.
"Yeah I knew you'd be home so I came to give you some great news." He plopped down on my bed and looked up at me.
"Oh and what is it?" I smiled, being happy that there was some good news in this crazy situation.
"Well my parents sent over some money so I decided to throw a party tonight. I came to pick you up because it starts in an hour."
I bit my lip and sat down on the bed. "I'm sorry I can't come today, at least not right now."
"How come?" He sat up and looked at me confused.
"I was supposed to turn in an essay today and completely forgot so I have to get it done today so I can turn it in tomorrow."
"Come on babe you're great with reports and stuff like that I'm sure you can get it done in time."
"I'm serious, if I don't finish it on time then I'll fail. Maybe if I finish early I'll drop by later on."
He stood up, looking a little pissed but he didn't show it too much. "Fine, you know my place, come by if you can."
"Of course." I nodded and led him to the front door.
"Don't forget to wear something short though," he added before leaving.
