Scanning the documents open on your desktop, you tap your fingers against your desk to keep yourself focused on the task, but it was no use. You couldn't distract yourself from the conversation happening behind closed doors to your right, and as you glance over, you make eye contact through the window with Jed Olsen. He quickly flashes you a smile, causing you to glance back down at your work. You question what their discussion is about; no one just walks into the Roseville Gazette, especially not to be talked to in private by the boss and his father. You start to adjust your focus back on the article you're currently editing about the destruction of an unattended building when the office door opens, jovial laughter pouring out from the inside. You straighten up in your desk chair, turning to face the three men as they exit. Derreck and Jed are both laughing, and to your surprise, Matthew has a huge smile plastered on his face. Derreck turns towards you and beckons you to stand up.

"Mr. Olsen, this is Y/N L/N, our assistant editor and junior journalist under me and my father." You smile towards Jed and are nearly blinded by an award-winning smile, making you lose focus for a second.

"It's nice to meet you Y/N, I'm excited to be working alongside you." Jed extended his hand out to you, and you gladly shake it, noticing that even his hands and fingernail are well-groomed. Suddenly, what he said fully registers in your brain, making you adopt a confused look that would put a question mark to shame.

"You'll be working with us?" You asked him politely, praying it didn't come wrong, as your words tend to fail you when you've been surprised. You look around at Derreck and Matthew to see if you can gain any information from them, but they both are wearing smug faces at your confusion. Thankfully when you look back at Jed, he also seems thrown off by their lack of explanation, but he recovers quickly squaring his shoulders and turning back to you.

"Yes, I just came to inquire about the position of a journalist that the paper put out a few months before see if the spot had been filled, and lucky for me the space was still vacant." You smile softly, nodding to show your understanding, also slightly proud that your advertisement had actually drawn someone in to work here. You're about to say something when Matthew Judes does the unexpected.

"You say you're lucky Mr. Olsen, but I believe we are the ones lucky to have you," Matthew speaks with a smile, voice loud and prominent, "You're qualifications exceeds us, so the fact that you wish to remain here is very flattering indeed." With that, a beaming smile falls onto Jed's face, causing you to take in his appearance for the first time.

He had shorter black hair, with two front pieces framing his face on the sides. It reminded you of a classic 90's haircut that causes you to smile in fond recollections of the photos in your grandmother's house. Jed's eyes are bright blue, almost like someone stole a sapphire and put them into his face. His smile is charming and his face is pale, giving the appearance of someone who typically conceals themselves inside to stare at a laptop all day long. Jed was wearing a white button-up long sleeve shirt, giving his skin a presence of tanning despite the actuality of his complexion. He had dark grey pants, black loafers and a silver watch adorned on his wrist brought your attention back up. After soaking in his presentation, you couldn't help but agree with Mr. Matthew Judes. Everything about our friendly Mr. Jed Olsen seemed overqualified, from the way he dressed to the way he talked.

You turn to sit back down at your desk, carrying a smile on your face as you lower yourself back to the screen of your computer. You turn your eyes back to the article and start reading, blocking out the conversation that the others were having around you. From what you were picking up, it sounded positive and happy, although you were doing your best to ignore it. Your ears perked up however when you hear Derreck pose the question of where Jed is from. You turn back towards the men, observing their relaxed body language, and smile as Jed answers.
