Penny stood there quiet and motionless, trying to remember every detail of what just happened while they lowered her beloved grandmother's coffin into her grave. "No..." she whispered, only just realizing what was happening. She couldn't handle the fact that her grandma Ellie had passed away, she felt that it was too soon and just too much. As the tears started to feel like heavy raindrops, she stormed away from the small crowd wearing all black.
She was so focused on getting out of there, she didn't realize that she was about to bump into someone. "Oh God... I'm so sorry I-..." she stuttered while helping the tall woman up on her feet. "No its completely fine. No harm was done". Penelope's eyes shot up to meet the woman's. "my God, she's gorgeous..." she thought to herself. The woman gave her a kind smile and a small pat on the head. "Be careful next time.". Penelope was left speechless as the tall, beautiful woman walked up to her grandmother's grave. "wait, she knows granny Ellie??"
She wondered how her grandmother knew of such a person and never managed to tell her about it. As the people around them started to disappear slowly, she decided that now was her chance to strike up a conversation with this woman. She took a deep breath and gathered all her remaining confidence to walk up to her. "Excuse me, ma'am?" she said nervously. The lady looked down at her and once again, gave her that genuine smile and said,"So I heard youre her only granddaughter". Penelope nodded and began introduce herself, "Im pene-". "Penelope Ava D. Lansky" the woman said proudly while waiting for penny to give any sort of confirmation. "Yes...", She was shocked.
No one had ever uttered her full name in a long time and she grew to hate it, but somehow this time she was fine with her saying it out loud. "Well, I'll be leaving now. Your grandmother talked alot about you, I hope we can meet again someday." she said as she began to make her way out of the cemetery.
Penelope was left speechless and she remained standing there until she heard her phone buzzing through her jacket. It was Mia, her girlfriend. She had forgotten she had a girlfriend for a while and felt guilty because of the 26 text messages and the 7 missed calls she had gotten from her.
"fuck..." penny mumbled as she realized that she was supposed to meet Mia at the park after the funeral. She rushed out of the graveyard and waved for a taxi after exiting its gates
